  • Just a small warning to extended inductioneers like me

I got my blood work today back today in my physical after being on Induction for 11 months. Most everything was phenomenal - things (HDL) that should be up were up, and things that should be down were way down. Here's just a small sample of the results:
    Last year This year
    BP 135/100 114/65
    Triglyceride 158 45
    Cholesterol 194 151
    HDL 33 42
    LDL 129 100
    Chol/HDLC 3.6
    Glucose 72
    globulin 1.9L
    albumin/globulin ratio 2.4 H
Those last two were perhaps borderline though. (not at all in the danger area) Here is what Center for Preventative Medicine said about them,
Globulins (Glb) are proteins that serve as the building blocks of antibodies, lipid proteins, clotting factors, glycoproteins and acute inflammatory proteins. Elevated globulin levels are present in chronic inflammatory diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis as well as infection, cirrhosis and multiple myeloma. Low globulin levels may be related to immune deficiencies, infection, lymphoma, leukemia, kidney disease, chemotherapy or steroid use.

Albumin/Globulin Ratio is a useful method to provide information to determine which protein component of albumin or globulin is elevated or decreased. Conditions that could lead to an abnormal ratio include lupus, severe liver dysfunction, infections and bone marrow abnormalities.
The doctor wasn't too concerned, but he did say to eat more nuts and/or fish specifically. I know this anecdotal evidence, so please upfront excuse this post. I just wanted to forewarn that skipping nuts might have problems -- the good doctors allows them back into the WOE after the first 14 days. Perhaps the real message out of this experience is to have your blood checked every once in awhile, and this WOE is indeed healthy.

do you take essential oils? I wonder if that would help with the "eat more fish" thing.

Wow those are some great cholesterol numbers Kent and the blood sugar and the BP you certainly have become healthier eating your Atkins.

Kent did you know dehydration will elevate your albumin level too making your ratio high too? You drinking your water? the good news is you aren't suffering from malnutriton as that would case a low level of it.

I had been taking my Omega 3 Fish Oils but had been out of them for awhile. As for hydration, I had been fasting for the test, so I was less than I typically was, but I am in the 100 oz range daily. I know, 2big - this is a point in time result, a snapshot. It was perhaps a wakeup call to me that I needed nuts perhaps more than I thought before.

actually you may not need the nuts at all Kent as it was just a snapshot. Did your doctor tell you what was in the nuts that was supposed to change your protein levels?

Don't know, I did not ask. I did find this online about Threonine.
Threonine is measured to be low in the plasma. Threonine is an essential amino acid needed for formation of body proteins, enzymes, peptides and hormones. Also, it is the precursor of other important protein-forming amino acids, glycine and serine. Threonine is needed for some glycoproteins where it becomes the link between the protein
and a carbohydrate or sugar molecule. Glycoproteins are involved in collagen and globulin formation and in immune function. Agglutinins that determine blood group are glycoproteins, some of which require threonine. Cheeses (especially Swiss), meat, fish, poultry, seeds, walnuts, cashews, almonds and peanuts contain relatively high levels of threonine. Low threonine can result from a poor quality diet or from gastrointestinal dysfunction, particularly intestinal malabsorption. In the small intestine, threonine absorption occurs slowly and is sensitive to disturbances in
              mucosal transport

Does this make any sense, 2big?

Great job Kent! :joy I'm glad to see that most everything that needs to go down is doing so! Keep up the good work! Just an FYI-I introduced nuts back in after BC, but I have to measure them out in snack size baggies as they are ADDICTIVE!!! Its hard to know when to stop if they aren't pre-measured for me!
                You're an inspiration!

actually Kent we have 3 types of serum proteins in our bodies Albumin, globulin and fibrogin, and you are just slightly low in the one that makes the enzymes that move the other proteins around either repairing or removing damaged body parts or beating up invading ouside protein sources like bacteria.

Lots of foods contain globulins both animal and plant

Wonder if something like walnut oil would accomplish the same thing, if you for whatever reason were not eating nuts?

I actually eat fish, chicken and beef in that order and although my doctor cautioned me about many of the lab indicators early on, I think for people using Induction on a longer term are better off with fish and chicken and some beef. I have to make sure the fat remains in the 60-65% area, though.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.
