  • Discouraged but not giving up!

So this morning I had my Monday morning weigh in and I gained back a pound! As discouraging as this was, Im not giving up! I know there are a number of factors that could have contributed to this, one being my starting working out at the gym. I did some weight training and my muscles could be retaining water to repair themselves, is that true or am I wrong? lol.
Another is I had some cream cheese clouds as a treat over the past week, so Im thinking maybe the splenda that was in them. So, this week, no little "treats" for me! Gonna see what happens and just go with the flow. Other than that I have been doing everything else the same, even cut down some on what I was eating as my appetite has decreased.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated

    Hi Clara
That is the right attitude! Not reason to get discouraged.
I would bet it is the exercise that is causing that scale thing. It seems to do that to a lot of people. You retain water to repair muscles, as you say. How wonderful that you started the exercise. That should really help you.

You could always press your index finger lightly against the wall when you hop on the scale. It won't report accurately, but it's kind of like a cute band-aid to cover up the ouchie.

Seriously though, that's one of the reasons that I resist the urge to weigh daily. I've found that if I weigh throughout the day, my weight can fluctuate by up to 3-5 pounds in a single day! I figure the longer I put between two checks, the greater the likelihood the second will be smaller. If I lose 3 pounds in two weeks and the moment I step on the scale, it reports a mysterious extra pound, I'm still two pounds down from my previous weigh in. That is less likely to happen in a 24 or 48 hour period.

But do not fear. You are not alone on these boards with your addiction to the scale. I see a future SAA group forming here (Scale Addicts Anonymous)!

One pound is easy to get back. Betcha next time you weigh in, you'll be done some more plus that 1. Great attitude. God Bless, Joe
