Shashee.. sorry your original post got off track. Hope you got your answers. Good luck on your weight loss!

2big, thanks for the clarification in terms. I am sorry, I should have said "modified OWL" rather than "modified induction".

I think may people lurk on the board rather than posting because sometimes when you post.. people are quick to respond that you are doing your own program. I do not feel like I am "modifying the program to my own liking" as said. I ate only things on the food lists.. just not all rungs everyday..keeping my carb counts between 20-25 a day. I have had great success and I guess I am guilty of misnaming it.. I was just trying to clarify that it is what many folks here are doing..

      Good luck to all !

check those pages in DANDR Dr Atkins thinks nuts are very healthy for you to eat as a part of yout Atkins they are not a bod food just a bad to control portions of food is all.

you shloud have seen you are doing time ans still in kletosis after having eaten them. but if you eat too many of them you will mot lose weight is all,

I remember the conversation we had on the subject of nuts and I believe it was a mod but I could be wrong that said for those on an extended induction that working small quantities of nuts (1oz) might help keep you on track and away from cheating.

I wouldn't know about 1 ounce of nuts keeping your from cheating...Nuts are the downfall of many in OWL, due to portion control. I think it revives some of our lousy eating habits where we ate endless handfuls of chips or candies. That's why I prefer to eat my nuts incorporated into something: chopped and sprinkled on salads, pumpkin puree, mixed into cream cheese or whipped cream.

What I found that keeps me and others from cheating is finally getting to the berry rung of OWL---the berries provide a sweet taste that more or less satisfies you and makes real sweets (and the frankenfood equivalents) less tempting. Tonight for dessert I had blackberry fool (blackberries, crushed and mixed into whipped cream). If I freeze the mixture I get a nice fruity popsicle type thing--no need for me to buy a half gallon of low carb ice cream and I don't have to worry about sugar alcohols, polydextrose and other chemical additives.

Shoot, my Atkins advocate doctor told me after 11 months to add nuts back into my Induction diet. It feels good to add this thing back and be able to demonstrate control over it. 15 nuts no more at a time. It gives you a chance to show your mind you have indeed changed from that old way of eating. This said you need to be be sure you can handle the portion control issues.

I am really sorry for upsetting you. :sadblinky I hope I am not one of those ppl who discourage lurkers from posting. I am just one of those folks who likes to be committed to what Dr. A originally designed. Dr. A's original plan works best, IMO.

My old, carb-addicted self was horrible about portion control, and I found when I added nuts as part of OWL, I overate them as well, as not2late has stated happened to her, and they stalled me big time. I also looked at the net carbs and justified overeating them, even though they had tons of calories.

Anyway, if you or anyone else can fit them in (the more raw the better, so they don't taste as good), without overeating them, the more power to you. They are really good for you in moderation. I, unfortunately, am still learning about that, even during strict Induction.

Again, I apologize for being snooty, we are all different.

one thing that sort of gets lost in DANDR is when DR atkins tells us something in chapter 1 he expects us to remember and apply it to every time that is mentioned again in his book. Like all whipped cream is sugar free whipped cream.

He states in chapter 8 that 1 ounce of nuts is 5 carbs and expects us when we get to OWL to know he meant 1 ounce severing as his 5 carbs limit and not run to your carb counter and find a lower carb nut and eat more of them cause they have less carbs then he said so. same for cheeses. you can use the USDA numbers for cheddar and have 13.9 ounces 1586.4 cals in rung 2 by the carb count but we know from DANDR that isn't what Dr Atkins intended he says cheese 1 oz one carb so he meant add 5 ounces max for 570.65 cals a big difference as we can all see. those that only read the chapter in DADNR dealing with their weight loss phase mis alot of the intendtions of Dr Atkins and the logic in his choices.
