  • No Veggies

Having been off Atkins for a fortnight, I weighed in yesterday and have only put on 3lbs. Although I may have taken some off in the last two days.
However, I am feeling the need to get this really kick started and over the last 2 and a half days, have had very few or no veggies.
This is now day 3. I had a salad on Sunday, but no veggies yesterday or today. The question is, will this be good or bad for me? I don't intend to keep it going like this, just that we have none in at the moment and the house is a tip, with the builders in.
I really could do with some quick initial results, as my fitness test is next Friday, but if it is deemed bad, I'll get back on them.

If you don't eat veggies, you aren't doing Atkins. This sets the foundation for a healthy life...forever.

OK sounds like a trip to the shops is in order before dinner tonight. Needing plenty of Salad veggies.
It's not that I don't like them it is just that I thought with No Carbs, I might get a jump into ketosis quickly.

      Thanks

My thinking is...stick with them veggies come **** or high water. You need 'em!

But boy! Do I know what it's like to have builders in!!! But still the veggies are way better than builder's dust! How many carbs does that stuff have, I wonder?!?! ensive

I hardly eat vegetables and i'm currently in a stall. It may help to jumpstart ketosis but after that, it probobly wouldn't make a difference.

            Word about veggies.

In addition to providing fiber, which will help lower your cholesterol and aid in combating constipation, vegetables contain vitamins and minerals.

Many vitamins and minerals function as cofactors in fat metabolism and in general body functions. You can think of cofactors as chemical helpers that power the chemical reactions occuring in your body daily. Therefore, if you are lacking a vitamin/mineral cofactor, your bod won't perform efficiently. Likewise, vitamins and minerals can for part of larger molecules that act as cofactors. For example, folic acid is thought to reduce cholesterol by reducing something called homocysteine. So, everyone is swallowing folic acid tablets. Well, the folic acid needs a nutrient called "choline" to help it reduce the homocysteine. So you can swallow all the folic acid tablets you want, if you don't have enough choline, your cholesterol levels will remain the same.

So what, right? You can just take a few multi-vitamin supplements, right? Wrong. Multi-vitamin supplements only contain what the manufacturer puts into them. So if the manufacturer doesn't think vitamin A is terribly important, that vitamin won't be put into the tablet. Moreover, your bod will only absorb part of the vitamins and minerals in the tablets: the rest of it gets excreted out into the toilet bowl.

By eating vegetables, you'll cover the bases the multivitamins don't and you'll have a more efficient and healthier body. So don't skip the veggies.

Make sure you have the right amount of fat in your diet when you are trying to get back into ketosis- it will get you in quickly. I would do the salad veggies and full fat dressings. Good Luck!

I kinda have to agree with Sassy. If I were in a stall, or just not losing, vegetables would be the last thing that I would eliminate. I would increase my exercise, adding weight training, I would increase my water intake. I would watch my fat intake. I would eliminate all frankenfoods, but the few carbs that we get from veggies just wouldn't be the problem.
Keep posting and let us know how it goes. It may just be a regular hesitation that most of us face every so often.

I had a good salad with my dinner last night. Iceberg, cucumber, red peppers and some cherry tomatoes. I did have another read at DANDR and realised the Fibre effect. I certainly don't need constipation in the next week or so.

I am also trying to include a few mushrooms and some onion into the equation, and perhaps a 1/2 cup of brussels sprouts now and again.

I think I've got the idea now. Maximum veggies allowed, healthier me!! :nod
