  • CREAM CHEESE

Was wondering about cream cheese. Get the impression from the you all describe it that in the States it's more creamy than the stuff we get here in Europe. Cream cheese in Italy means those triangular wrapped up wedges.

Is it the same in the USA? And, if not... what does it resemble...what would be the best substitute?

Thanks for the help anyone! :help

I think in Italy the equivalent is mascarpone.
The one I get is per 100 gr
      cal: 336
      protein: 5
      carbs: 2.5
      fat: 30
and that fits in with the cream cheese in Fitday.

It is my saviour for breakfast - someone here on the forum gave me the recipe - mixed with cream and a bit of coffee .. yum !

The caveat about mascarpone is that Atkins recognizes it as a "fresh cheese", so it's not allowed until the dairy rung of OWL.

        editing to add...
I think in some parts of Europe, you can buy something called "Philadelphia" cheese. This is cream cheese.

True sorry you're right I only added it in fact at the dairy rung.
We do have Philadelphia - plain and also with herbs etc which seem ok carb wise I use like a teaspoon occasionally on celery.

Mascarpone is tooo yummy though :nod

Thanks Jenny and Not2late. I know (and adore) mascarpone...but will save for OWL. Philadelphia is easy to get here, so good to know!

            Tks again! :joy
