  • Can you Develop INSOMNIA from atkins!!??!!

    Hey every one....

    So weird question....Since I have been on the diet starting december 15th 2008 I havent been able to really sleep...I am up all hours of the night not going to bed until around 4:30....can you develop insomnia on atkins???

    Hmmm... took a second to really think about it...

    It's after midnight, here I am posting on Atkins, doing clenches to work my glutes while drinking water, with this on the other browser tab, volume UP:

      Hmmmm.... I wonder? at 1:10am... could it be because of Atkins?

        My mom swears by melitonin. Get directions on how much to take but she says it works. I don't have insomnia during atkins but I don't need to nap during the dy or sleep as much at night. I used to take daily naps because I was just so tired. I felt like I was druged when I ate carbs.

          Sometimes to help sleep now, I take 1.5mg melatonin, 5-HTP (more intense dreaming), valerian &/or Kava Kava and if really want to sleep, some diphenhydramine, too. I tend to not have sleepies at 3 anymore during the day, thanks to Atkins, but I have to make myself get off the computer at some point!

              try not eating 2-3 hours before bed you cant get raphid eye movement when your full

              when i stoped eating atleast 2 hours b4 bed it helped my insomnia alot

                I'm positive...and also, I have Dr tkins interview and he said to Larry King that he did not need 8hrs sleep and that the level of energy developed less need to spleep. I'll look for that interview..

                  One things for sure. I haven't done low carb in over 3 years, and I'm fat again, and I don't sleep so well because of not being comfortable and snoring... so you're better off... And I will be again soon...

                    I have been on induction for two weeks as of today - the thing I noticed most is that I don't fall asleep every time my butt hits the sofa. I used to drift off around 9:30 or 10 most nights...now I am forcing myself to bed at midnight. I was attributing it to excitement....but maybe not

                      i have not been having a problem sleeping but i think its because i work out so hard almost everyday

                        If anything I've noticed that my sleeping habits have become better since starting Atkins! I used to lay in bed at night for 30, 45 minutes...sometimes an hour or more and just not fall asleep even if I was tired. Now I am lucky if I can make it through half a chapter in my evening reading before I start nodding off.

                        Whenever I have difficulty sleeping I take some melatonin (as a few others suggested). Just make sure you have the time to get a good 6-8 hours of sleep if you take it. The fun thing about melatonin is it gives you wicked vivid dreams!

                          I've heard cheese can keep you up, so avoid it a few hours before you go to sleep!

                            I had terrible insomnia for many years before I started Atkins. I would go to bed, toss and turn for hours, and finally give up and get up. I was always tired from not enough sleep.

                            Since starting Atkins, I fall asleep within minutes of going to bed, sleep all night, and always wake up feeling refreshed.

                            Also I used to always have heartburn. I had it bad on induction, but once I was past the three week mark, I haven't had it at all.

                            I can't believe the difference!
