  • Belly fat

i am on extended induction.lost 7 kg in 19 days.i am walking ,cycling and rowing daily with light weight lifting for upper body.I also do crunches for abs thrice a week..i have lost several inches all over my body Except my belly.my lower abdomen is still huge and sort of pouch like..which is really embarrassing.
i want to know what should i do to reduce my middle n lower stomach besides crunches and will it shrink with further weight reduction even if i do not do ab crunches?

    Re: Belly fat

Yes, the belly fat will go! Unfortunately, for me, I have found it's the last to go!! I'm nearing goal and people keep telling me it's time to stop, I'm obsessed, I've "taken this whole thing too far," and then I slouch a little and gather the spare tire that's still in my shirt and tell them I still have some work to do! I've still got stomach fat and abdomen fat. DO NOT stop doing ab work! It will get you the results you want faster. I never thought my stomach would cooperate with the whole deflation process but it is and yours will too! Hang in there, from what I can see, it's happening the most the closer I get to goal.

It seems like where you want to lose it most is always the last place where you see a difference. Mine is the saddlebags and thighs. ;(

I agree with the ladies. Give it a bit of time and you'll notice small differences here and there...then large differences.

          Re: Belly fat

here is part of Jillian Michaels daily blog I receive online - talking about the subject you ask about:

          Lose That Lower Gut Flab

Ugh, the lower gut — it's often the last thing to go, right? Lower-abdominal flab can be downright persistent, but it can be reduced with the right diet and exercise regimen. If your gut instincts are telling you to start crunching, you're on the right track. Although crunches by themselves won't burn belly fat, they will strengthen your core, burn intramuscular fat, and help you build lean, calorie-burning muscle. If you want an exercise that specifically targets the lower and transverse abs, try the Reverse Crunch.
          Reverse Crunch
          • Lie on your back with your feet off the floor, knees bent, and ankles together. Bring the tops of your quads inward and onto your stomach so that you don't swing your legs to gain momentum during the movement. (This also helps you isolate your lower abs during the crunch instead of engaging the hip flexors.) Relax your head, neck, and shoulders, resting them on the floor. Rest your arms at your sides, palms facedown on the floor.
          • Lift your pelvis off the floor, and curl it toward your rib cage. Make sure to exhale fully while you're crunching in order to maximize the contraction.
If you really want a challenge, hold your arms out at your sides and several inches off the floor. This helps to further isolate your abs, prohibiting your arms from assisting in the crunch by pressing off the floor with your hands.

          JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY
          Give Yourself a Hand

If you're rocking your legs as you crunch, you're missing the mark (you're actually working your hip flexors, not your lower abs). If you aren't sure if you're doing reverse crunches correctly, place your hands on top of your pelvis, right below your hip bones. You should be able to feel your abdominal muscles working while you're doing the exercise.
          Carole

The only thing that helped my abdomen was Pilates... I got a couple of good Pilates DVDs and could really tell the difference soon.

              Re: Belly fat

I used to have a big belly 'apron.' I now have a smaller belly 'flap.' I too have folks telling me I have lost enough.. but they don't see that flap squished into my jeans and tucked under my 'spanx.' It is smaller than it was though, so I take great comfort in that.. it goes, just slowly.

When the last excess fat cells you are burning on Atkins are the ones on your belly, they will just have to go, won't they, even if they are the last? You have to burn fat, if you stay in ketosis. So eventually, they will go. Keep working on the underlying muscles, they will pull the excess skin in for you. (Pilates type core exercise are great, callanetics, the 'core fusion' dvds, all good.)

                    Re: Belly fat

crunches wont do anything to lose the belly fat, it's brown fat and it will be the last to go.
fat loss is uniform throughout the body you cannot spot lose fat.

i found that cycling carbs works wonders, i know it's not very atkin like, but cutting carb content every second day and doing EXTENSIVE exercise lost my gut to almost nothing. you need to do HIIT, high intensitivy interval training, not just rowing for an hour. 30 seconds flat out, 30 second rest, do that 8 times and it burns 1.5 times more calories than an hour of continuous running. just start low, with 6 reps, twice a day and you will see amazing results after 2 weeks. do runing in morning, and rowing at night so you don't get bored. max 15 mins each. the trick is to get your heart rate up, and then do as many reps of running or rowing as you can at that rate, i guarantee you will lose up to half a kilo a day

ps. or you can just get cytomel and watch the pounds melt away

crunches give great definition for mid section, plus burning a little extra calories just from exercising. they won't make you lose fat specifically in gut

Are you a female? I think many of us and years add to this so will menopause we thicken up in that area easily. It is a problem area for many of us - me included. I think I would be pretty bummed out if I just sat here and waited for the fat to disappear because it is one of the last areas to go. But what I can do is to start to form it and I have. And it works. Even it there still is some wiggle to it. I cannot imagine how my tummy would look like it I had not worked it.
It is also very important to strengthen the core. Helps with posture and strength. . Do what you have to do for yourself but don't dish my crunching.

Be sure to get plenty of walking in. I stopped (like a dummy) but when I was walking regularly, the first place I noticed weight loss was my ab area, big time too.

After reading this post, I started thread hopping from posts listed about regarding belly fat. I found this link about walking. http://health.msn.com/fitness/articl...0214356&page=1 I hope it is helpful to you. I am so overweight (morbidly obese to be exact) and I saw a big difference when I was walking 2 miles. I did brisk walking for like 3 to 4 days out of the week.
