Re: Was losing at fast rate and now stalled

Ok I am doing great. I am down 27 pounds since Nov. 23rd and have dropped from XL/size 40 to L/ size 36. I have been using ketostix and getting a moderate reading consistently. I have not used them over the holidays. I did not deviate from my eating plan, which was difficult. But, I did it. I used the ketostix yesterday and I am getting a negative reading now. What is going on?

    Thanks,

      Nothing probably.

Your body doesn't spill ketones everytime you pee.

Re: Was losing at fast rate and now stalled

The sticks are unreliable -- I used them for a few weeks to begin with but never registered any color at all (I bought 3 different bunches from 3 different places so they couldn't have all been bad!). Even though I wasn't showing any color I lost around 13 pounds on induction and 10 inches.....and I'm not the only one - many of us tell people to keep their money and buy some good food with it and enjoy eating instead of peeing on a stick!

Are you down any more weight? If not, are you loosing inches? How much exercise are you doing? Are you drinking the minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily? Also, watch all the ingredients in your food for additives and hidden sugars.

        Good luck.

I lose weight in bunches. I go days losing without losing weight and then lose a bunch. I lose inches daily. My clothes are more loose every time I try them on. I drink between 90 oz to 120 oz of water a day.

So I used the Ketostix today and I am getting a positive reading again. Not really sure what happened there, but happy that I am producing ketones again.

                  >>I am planning on starting OWL at 220 pounds.>>

Do you really think an extra 5 net carbs worth of Induction vegetables is a bad idea?

                  >>So I used the Ketostix today and I am getting a positive reading again. Not really sure what happened there, but happy that I am producing ketones again.>>

You don't know that you weren't producing ketones. You just weren't spilling any extra!

Please understand that just because you're not turning a stick a color, that you're not producing ketones.

And also understand that the color of the stick doesn't mean you're doing Atkins properly or that you will lose weight.

What it does mean is that you had enough hand/eye coordination to pee on a stick.

Congrats on the 30 lbs! That's a lot in 6 weeks and further shows that you really are not metabolically resistant. Do you remember the example of Dan Wilson (Chapter 13 in DANDR 2002)?

You're right that no one can force you to move to OWL unless you choose to. However, we want you to take an informed decision instead of hesitating to move to OWL afraid that the plan will stop working.

I hope you've read Chapters 12 and 13 in DANDR.

Excellent thread with lots of great info.

I had been wondering about the counting calorie thing and found it here.

Question: At what point should somebody move to OWL? Since everybody has a different percentage of weight loss they'd like to attain, is it based on percentages?

I don't count calories. I just watch what I eat and how much of it. I eat until I am full. I will take a few bites of my meal, put it down and do something else. Then I will eat again, takes me about 30 mins to eat. You get full a lot faster. It's working great
