If the food is on the list, you may have it.

You can look up the carbs here: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

That's total carbs. We are counting net carbs, which are total carbs minus dietary fiber.

tweedledee, you need to read the book -- Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002).

In the meantime check out the Induction FAQs, because the impression you give is that you really don't understand Atkins to the minimum level that would allow you to follow Induction correctly.

Jicama is like a fiber bomb, which explains the difference.

1 cup is 11.5g total carbs, but subtract 6.4g fiber carbs, and it's a much more reasonable 5.1g/cup.

That you found out on December 9th. Is jicama on the Acceptable Foods List in your copy of the book?

i know what net carbs are.the link didnt say net carbs, just carbs.
Then why did you ask how can we be allowed 2 cups of jicama, if you knew it's net carbs we are counting, not total carbs?

And when the label says "Carbohydrates", it's always total carbs if you are in the US (I see you're in NY).

not full time but at nigt yes. i already got the ketone warning lecture when i first arrived on the boards. i spoke to my doctor, my om ( a frmer patient of dr. atkins) as well as other breastfeeding moms who have done this and im comfortable continuing as of now. i am starting to wean my daughter as she eats more solids. this is temporary and im nt in ketsis as of now anyway. not yet at least.

when the carbs consist of fiber or sugr alcohols, labels will usually break that down as well. this site said only total so i assumed it meant all were regular carbs.

I know. But since Dr. Atkins wrote that breastfeeding mothers should not follow Induction, OWL or Pre-Maintenance, I believe it would be irresponsible of me to give you Induction advice.

that is up to you. all diets have that warning about breast-feeding as does my vitamin c supplement. its a legal disclaimer more than anything else. i would like to be around to see my baby grow up and the weight i gained during pregnancy has made me officially obese. i don't want to put this off anymore. but if it makes you uncomfortable, you don't have to reply until my daughter is weaned. no hard feelings.

So do what Dr. Atkins recommends and do maintenance.

Don't eat junk food if you are.

                            Drink lots of water.

Maybe because the health of the baby is important!
