Re: fell off now starting again

feeling sick could be the sugar in your system from the cheats.

Take the time today to write out a list of reasons why you should do atkins right now and place a value from one to 10 of how valuble that reason is to you. use a number as often as you need to.

Now do the same for why you shouldn't do atkins right now and value them.

total your lists and which ever one is higher is what you need to do now. if the atkins list is smaller you can slowly lower your bad carbs by eating similar to maintnenance witrh whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies along with your portein dairy and fats. then each week you could cut back some of the higher glycemic indexed foods until you are in OWL and doing great.
Mrs Atkins used to call that backing into Atkins.

Re: fell off now starting again

I get monster cravings with TOM, whether I am watching what I eat or not. That's understandable, and everyone slips at some point or another.

But I have to agree with poohbear....you should really examine what is at the root of the cheating, perhaps you aren't ready?

The thing is, the first few days are the hardest, not just for cravings. Many people even get flu-like symptoms. Once you make it through the hardest part, it's a shame to keep taking two steps back and have to go through it all over again-for your efforts aside from the cheats to be for nothing. Don't put yourself through a self defeating roller coaster, because constantly being disappointed in yourself isn't going to help you on this journey. Take the time for yourself to prepare and plan, and psych yourself up for willpower like a steel trap! Then hit the ground running towards success. You can do it!
3 years ago, I lost 60 pounds in 12 weeks on Atkins.
I have PCOS, which makes my weight REALLY sensitive to carb intake, and I've gained back most of it since going off plan.
      Restarting 02/07/10.

Re: fell off now starting again

Before I became serious about this diet and way of life, I did give it a try and failed - about three times, over a period of two months - before I decided that I had to move past the difficult times to get to the more managable times.

The same thing happened when I quit smoking - I had to take a handful of stabs at it to see what I was facing. When it got scary hard, I smoked, thinking "I can't do this."

But, once I figured out what it was I had to push past to get to my goal and then committed to do the push no matter what, I was able to just get the job done.

When I committed to the Atkins diet - especially the Induction period - already knowing what I had to push past and accepting it - I was completely fine and have been fine ever since.

I do have some rough times here and there. The other week I introduced a few strips of green and red pepper to my evening salad. I had a very bad craving night but I was fine the next morning.

I remained fine until I tried them again and now realize that I will simply have to avoid these for a few months - for whatever reason, they are a personal trigger.

I went out and bought some L-Glutamine 1000 mg tablets. Taken one hour before a meal on an empty stomach, they are supposed to help with the cravings per Atkins 2002 book. The next time I'm going to introduce anything new that is allowable and that I know contains a natural sweetness to it (like the red pepper) I will take one and see if that should help. It can't hurt at any rate and if the new food hits a trigger, perhaps it won't hit it so hard.

This has been my little story, I hope it somehow helps with your own struggle.

i really like this comparison. it seems like "the hump" applies to most lifestyle changes unless you're a saint or a machine.
