  • After an Indulgent weekend what do I do?

    My history.

I was about 10lbs owerweight. I did induction for 10 days and then followed the maintenance plan for a couple of months. I am now at my target weight.

But I do like to treat myself to French fries, rice & other high carb foods over weekend.

    My query.

Do I revert to normal maintenance OR should I go on an 'Induction' diet for 2-3 days following my indulgent weekend?

    Thanks & regards,

While on maintenance, Dr. Atkins said it was OK to have these foods in small quantities. Did you gain weight?

      After a weekend Treat?

Well I did not gain back any visible weight (or inches) due to the weekend treats, as during the following week I reverted back to low carb diet.

My dilemma is; after a weekend of Indulgence, should ideally revert to high fat (Zero Carb) Induction diet for a couple of days (Monday & Tuesday), so that my body reverts to 'fat burning' mode?

      OR

Should I continue on a low carb diet after the weekend?

      Thanks

Since you are at goal weight and did not gain, there is no reason for you to go back to induction. Going back and forth from induction to maintenance can be harmful if done too often, so you want to avoid it unless absolutely necessary. Dr. Atkins said you can do it after goal IF you've gained five pounds.

          Hope this helps!

          P.S. Induction is 20 carbs.

First off induction is not a zero carb life lifestyle and people who do it this way are just looking for problems later on. Secondly induction is meant to break cravings and get you into healthy eating habbits, if you aren't having cravins there isn't any reason for going to an induction menu. So long as you are exercising and watching your weight regularly I don't see problem endulging even more often than the good doctor says is ok (or for that matter with things that would horrify and outrage most atkins fanatics) , but that is just me. My thoughts is try it and if it doesn't bother you then you should eat it as you like so long as you are drink plenty of water (as high carbs can cause a duretic effect in regular low carb dieters), exerrcise to put of any extra calories and stay within a comfortable weight.

            EDIT

Some of us dispense advice based on 128 pounds of weight loss in less than a year. Some people will only tell you what they read in the book whether it has done them any good or not.
