  • Back to Induction! Yikes!

Well, I am officially over goal so it is back to induction for me for a couple of weeks to get this back under control. I had previously posted about me getting sloppy recording my foods. During that time, I knew I was eating more than I should. I seemed to be so much hungrier all the time and I knew that I had to do something, but figured I was still under goal and could handle it. Well, not anymore. I am actually 1 lb over goal! So, yesterday I went back on induction until I get this under control.

This morning instead of wearing my most comfortable pair of slacks, I purposely grabbed the pair that I knew was tight! Just needed a little extra motivation.

Hey Don! Nice to see you around, though I'm sorry about the circumstances.

I restarted induction last week. I swore I'd never do it, but I gained 15 pounds from my all-time lowest and 10 pounds from my average weight (thanks to marathon training) and felt like crap. So hop on the induction bandwagon, all the cool people are doing it...

Thanks Jules! I swore it wasn't going to happen to me as well. I was actually kind of shocked. Oh well, now I've got to dust off the old DANDR book and read what I'm actually supposed to be eating on induction. Uh oh, I don't see wine on the acceptable list! LOL

That's great that you are able to see the gain and have the will power to restart. You did great and deserve to stay there. Good luck. God Bless, Joe

          Re: Back to Induction! Yikes!

I actually had gotten up to 3 lbs over goal, but after 5 days on induction I have lost 4 lbs and am back 1 under goal. However, I am going to stay on induction the full two weeks in order to really get my body adjusted. I had really noticed an increase in appetite and certain foods I believe were the culprit.

While my CCLL is really high at over 100, I had certain foods that I think really triggered things.
I only eat whole grains, so when I eat out and want a burger I will order it on a whole grain bun. Whole grain however doesn't mean that it doesn't have sugar. I was shocked when I got some Orowheat buns the other day, and really high up on the list was molasses.

Likewise for Cheerios. The next three ingredients after whole grain oats is modified corn starch, corn starch, and sugar. So that is going in the trash completely.

I do enjoy having wine with dinner, but while I think it is OK to have 1 glass of wine, I had been having more glasses which also increased my appetite.

Lastly, nuts. I stopped measuring them. 1 oz of nuts is fine, but I found myself eating them out of the can or jar. They are definately addictive and can lead to problems.

First week of induction gone and I lost six pounds and am officially three pounds under my goal weight. Going to stick with induction for another week, just to make sure that my body has adjusted and then gradually ease back into maintenance. It sure won't hurt having a little extra breathing room as well.

                    Re: Back to Induction! Yikes!

Thanks for checking Sally. The short answer is NOT GOOD! I hit 207 this morning on weigh in. YIKES!!! I feel like failure is right around the corner if I don't get a handle on this thing. I think that is the scary part.

However, I know what some of the culprits are. Now it is just a matter of dealing with it. Wine is one of my downfalls. I have to measure it out and stick to about 7 oz and I am fine. Same goes for nuts. I have to measure out 1 oz for a snack and put the darn things away. Then there is coffee. I switched over to decaf thinking that might help, but I also have to use Splenda to sweeten it, and it puts me over what I should be using. Lastly, I need to get back to logging all my foods in religously. I have been pretty lax about it.

I think it is a dangerous spot for me to be in right now. I know I can lose it and get back below goal, but it concerns me that it may become a bad pattern that I'm getting into.
                    Don

                      Re: Back to Induction! Yikes!

I hear you on the wine, Don. That's my number one failing too. My "one glass an evening" has lately become "wine with dinner and a glass after dinner"... It's hard to get a handle on this.

Hopefully the terror of falling back to where we once were, pre Atkins, will be an incentive before things get out of hand. I'm still maintaining ok, but doing that by dropping a few foods. Don't think it's very good to drop food in favour of alcohol.

You are seven lbs up from goal... that's only two over Dr A's suggested "5 lb buffer zone". I know you can drop those in a flash... and am willing to bet that once you do so, you'll have the incentive to drop the other five too.

All the best... keep us posted. We're with ya, and are all in the same boat!
