Along with my other question, I have another question. Would it be okay if I just ate 5g of cucumbers (not a new veggie to me) the whole week? It says in the book that during OWL, we're supposed to eat what we plan on eating in maintenance, right?? Well, I never plan on eating any other veggies during maintenance, so is this acceptable?

It sounds ok to me, but... one of the mods needs to confirm this!

MEGS, MOOCHIE, 2BIG, ISABEAU, ANY MODS can answer Matt's question?

oops, didn't see this question till now Matt.

When you are introducing a new food, you need to eat it for 3 days in that week (roughly every 2nd day). If that's ok, then you go into the 2nd week eating that new food everyday. If you still lose, that's good, you go on and find another new food. If you stall or gain, then you have to cut it out.

You are encouraged to try as many new foods as possible... cucumber is nutritious, but not as nutritionally dense as some of the other vegetables. If you dislike veggies so much now, is it possible to hide the taste with something else? like dipping celery into melted cheese or something?

If you don't eat veggies, how on earth are you going to cope when you are supposed to go vegetarian later this month?

You could do that if you want, but berries are a higher sugar food than most veggies, dairy, nuts and seeds. I can't eat some of the berry rung fruits because they cause me to crave food and feel hungry 5 minutes after a meal. You might be different.

But take this as a warning: Dr. Atkins wrote in the Food Intolerance chapter, the foods you crave are sometimes the foods that are bad for you.

Also take that food craving you are having as a warning too---a food you are currently eating might be having a bad effect on you.

The rung 1 veggies are in addition to the 3 cups you've been eating during Induction.

Matt, you're still a young teen: you have your whole life ahead of you. So limiting your whole life to one veggie might not be the most practical thing from a long-term point of view.

Nutritionally, cucumbers are pretty useless. They are mostly water. They don't have nearly the vitamins and minerals other veggies have.

Just remember, variety is the spice of life. You wouldn't want to miss out on something that tastes fabulous and is good for your health too due to your food prejudices. You'll read it from time to time on ADBB, folks who are brave enough to try out other veggies and finding that they love them.

All tastes for food is acquired. You aren't born automatically liking candy bars. You need to taste it first before you make a judgement that you dislike this food or that food. Don't box yourself into a small corner like that. Try out different veggies prepared in different ways: raw or lightly steammed. With few exceptions, most veggies taste best either raw or cooked to a "medium rare". Try them simply prepared before you toss them into the reject pile. Overcooked veggies are bitter, dull and nasty-tasting. Most people who hate veggies eat them that way: overcooked.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll just try new veggies and see. But for the past two days I've been really busy with finals, so I just ate cucumbers. Thanks for all the advice.
