  • Please Help with my question!

Day 17 of my Atkins diet with 10 pounds down!!!!!!! I didn't think I lost any weight at all until I hopped on the scale this morning. If I hadn't lost weight I was planning on giving up on atkins and going to a low-calore diet....

So here is the question.......the wife is making chili tonight? Is it ok to have chili a bowl of Chili on day 17 if I keep my Carb intake really low throughout the day?

I guess your typical chili (beans, chick peas, beef...etc)

Any and all advice welcome...thanks in advance.

Aj...from what you've read in Dr. Atkins book and read on this board, do you think it's okay?

Anyone else is going to probably tell you that no, its not really okay if you are still in the Induction phase and you want to continue to lose weight. Dr. Atkins tells us in the book that if it isn't on the list we are to have none of it. And that things that are not on the list (for Induction) are "the kiss of death". Sure it might just be a bowl of chilli, but the real issue comes after you eat the bowl of chilli. Eating carbs can trigger very strong cravings for more carbs and cause people to drift away from the Atkins low carb way of eating. So to answer you question, sure you could eat the chilli and eat really well for the whole day and the next few days and exercise to burn off those carbs, but is it worth triggering the cravings? You need to ask yourself if it is okay.

Perhaps your sweet wife could make something that you could both enjoy. Try a new recipe from the recipe section.

    My $0.02.

Congratulations on the 10lbs, BTW that's really wonderful!

Day 17 of Atkins, so I guess you have only added an additional 5 net carbs of the Induction veggies. That means, you still have a long way to go before you can add legumes (beans).

Chili is Atkins friendly---depending on your particular phase of Atkins. From your experience on Induction, you know that tomato products allowable but are high in carbs. So ask your wife what she puts into her chili and the various amounts. you can use your fitday.com account to figure out how many carbs per serving the chili will contain and you will know if the ingredients of that chili are compatible with your OWL Carb Ladder.
