  • question about moving up rungs

    Hi all,

I'm not sure if I'm doing this right, can you point me in the right direction?

This is my 1st week after of induction - adding more veggies. While on induction, I think I was hitting an average of 15 net carbs/day. Now that I'm adding in more veggies, I'm finding that even though I'm adding in lots more carbs I'm also adding in lots more fiber ... so my grand total is still about 15 net carbs/day.

So my question is this ... Since my net carb intake hasn't really changed, would I still move on to the seeds/nuts rung next week - or should I wait until I've successfully added 5 carbs of veggies to my diet before my climbing up?

PS. I did just read the sticky about adding in *higher carb* veggies, and I'll give that a go ...

You add 5 net carbs of an Induction Veg. So if you were eating 15 nets during Induction, you should be eating 20 nets during rung 1 because you added 5 net carbs of an Induction veg.

All the veggies have different net carbs per cup. While you still eat the Induction 3 cups daily, the OWL amount is 5 net carbs. So you want to eat the 5 net carb amount. If you have fitday or another carb counter, like the USDA website, you can play with the amount of the food. See what the net carb of x cups of that food would be and eat that.

Eating the higher carb veggies are ideal because you eat a smaller volume (as our bodies get smaller and our appetites get smaller, eating a 6 cup lettuce or spinach salad might be physically impossible) of the veg. The other thing is to make sauces of these veggies. If you like tomato sauce, you can have 5 net carbs of that on your 1 cup of spaghetti squash. If you want to have a 5 net carbs of a nice creamy vegetable soup for lunch along with a 2 cup salad, go for it. If you want to have a nice stirfry, go ahead.
