  • Is This True???

Ok, so one of my friends came over and she was on Atkin's before and lost over 100 pounds and is back on it again. I had told her about my stall and she advised me to go and get a huge ice cream, brownie sundae, or anything loaded with sugar and then the next day start Atkin's again. She said this will get my body going again with burning fat and losing weight. I guess every time she lost 35 pounds she wouls do this and it would work and make her lose more when she was stalled. Could there be any truth to this? She warned me if I do this that I'm going to feel absolutely terrible tomorrow and have the worst cramps. I haven't done it yet and don't know if I plan to because I've worked so hard to get where I'm at. Has anyone heard of this or tried it?

I would be worried about monster cravings afterwards and having a hard time getting back on the wagon...(Isn't this called, "The Wendy Plan"?)

DONT DO IT!!!! Its hard to get back on! You will break a stall eventually by just simply continuing to eat right.

Like TaterTot said....don't do it. If you worked this hard to stay on the plan it'll work. A Stall is something that last for more then a month. If it's been less than a month, it's a "pause". Jump starting yourself with a little more legal carbs into the next rung could be a choice and better alternative. Time and patience is the other. Too much of the high carbed could do more damage to your body then to your friends.

Hang in there. And make the best decision for you as you are taking care of your body.

          Best wishes!

It honestly works for me. I dont know about a huge sundae but if I eat a cookie or something similar..my stall breaks.,..I was stalled for about a month and when i ate a cookie...I went whoosh with no cravings.

check out the effects of a suga4 load on low carbers blood sugar and you will not want to do that. you are basically about to turn yourself into a diabetic after you eat that. yourbody isn't producing large amounts of insulin right now and isn't prepared to do so. you blood sugar will spike and you will get all the damage to your organs blood vessels and nerves a diabetic with out of control blood sugar gets. Is that worth it to bust a stall. If you only eat to satisfy your hunger and go run a marathon your stall will bust too but you will suffer ill effects from that too.

try giving up all your sweets and sww what happens to your weight loss hesitation.

This sounds kind of harsh, but you have to ask yourself why she managed to re-gain her weight after losing before you seriously consider taking her advice.

How long has your weight loss been stopped? Remember Dr. Atkins defined a weight loss plateau, or "stall", as 4 consecutive weeks without loss of pounds or inches. So if the scale isn't moving but the tape measure is, you're not in a "stall".

                What's your current carb level?

What was the last carb level you were losing?

What new foods have you added?

Have you added any new foods in larger amounts?

                Is your TOM approaching?

Have you changed your exercise routine?

Thanks for the advice, I don't think I'm going to do that because it would be crazy! The scale and tape measure aren't moving but to the questions above me.. I am eating 40 carbs or less per day and I haven't added any new food, I've just stuck with the same old stuff I've been eating. I missed my period this month. I have changed my exercise routine, I went from walking for 20 minutes to 90 and weight lifting more than I was. Should I decrease my carbs and maye go back to eating 30 a day and see what happens?

                    Kim,

I'm not an expert, and I haven't been plagued by 'Stall' (knock on wood) yet, but maybe decrease your carbs by 5 or even 10 like your saying and see what happens. I remember that somewhere in the book it stated that some people even in later rungs of OWL can still only do 25 or so carbs and still loose.

I know you're really working hard at it, you have wonderful posts, but I wouldn't take the advice (especially that dangerous) from somebody who lost 100 pounds only to put it all back on, I'm sorry to say. YOU should be very very proud of your 36 pound loss. Be proud of yourself girl, remember how much 36 pounds is, look at it next time you go to the store. I picked up a 50 pound bag of dog food at Walmart and walked from one side of the sotre to the other and back again, good lord, I was breathing hard, sweating....yikes, I set it back down and said to my wife, damn.....I lost that much weight!!! Maybe try to decrease your carbs like you're saying and see what happens.

                    Good Luck!

                      Re: Is This True???

I think I'll try doing that and see what happens, it seems like that may be the only thing that might work. I was trying to think of the foods which possibly may be stalling me that I've been eating and I can't think of anything because I haven't added anything new. The half-and-half in my coffee might be doing it because Dunkin' Donuts doesn't measure it out they just squirt it in and I know it's well over 2 Tbsp, I know I'm allowed to have more since I'm past the dairy rung but I might be overdoing it. Maybe I'll just get it black with Splenda and add the heave cream I have here to it. So today I'm going to the IRL Race at MIS and my husband's company provides lunch which is pretty much a buffet and I don't think they're going to have anything there that I can eat so I'm going to try and pack my own stuff and we're stopping at a beef jerky outlet that's on the way, it's all homemade but I'm going to ask if they have any no-sugar added stuff. Thanks again everyone for the great advice, I think all of you prevented me from doing something I didn't really want to do in the first place. I'm glad I'm not the only one who stalls and for a long time.

A change in your exercise routine can cause a "stall" because you are working your muscles more or differently and they can retain water. If you do a search for Brook's post about her experience with this muscle-water-retaining-from-new-exercise, she gains or doesn't lose any weight for a few weeks.

My advice is to keep on exercising and monitor your food.

I need to mix it up to keep losing
I am very strict with carbs and once every 2 weeks I need to up them to shake my body up. That doesnt mean that I eat every piece of sugar in sight! I just add more carbs for a day and then go back to low low carbs the next

I guess its all about playing until you know how your body reacts
                          I love Dr Atkins!

I reached Onederland after being stalled a long time, then slowly the scale creeped down to 193, now it has stayed there for weeks. It seems like an eternity to me. Just hang in there, even when the tape doesn't show inches lost or the scale pounds dropped, I can SEE with my eyes where I've toned or look a wee bit sleeker. Use your eyes too and don't follow your friends advice, thats just a downward spiral waiting to happen. You are stunning by the way, you should model!

in CHapter 14 DR Atkins tells us to back the carbs down 5 net and see what happens. But first give you new exercise programs a chance with 14 days of them and see what happens.
