  • Dairy Rung Question..

    Hi

Im currently on the Dairy Rung, and have added greek yoghurt to my diet, the only other dairy i like is cheese. Im not a fan of cream and i dont like milk either.

So, do i just add more cheese to my daily amount of 4oz? If im not having Yoghurt.

What other things can i add during the Dairy Rung??

    Re: Dairy Rung Question..

Dr. Atkins gives a partial list in the book on Dairy Rung items.

The dairy rung is where you have to be cautious because Dairy items are high in fat. And during OWL we're supposed to lower our fat intake as we increase our carb intake. So if you choose to eat 5 net carbs of a Dairy rung food, you might better off foregoing an ounce or two of hard cheese or a tablespoon or so of added fat.

You could also start to use recipes that have milk or soft cheeses like ricotta in them. For example, cheese sauce on your broccoli, or zucchini lasagna. You don't have to have 5 net carbs of dairy every day if you don't really like that many dairy products, although they do provide important nutrients. It's really easy to get carried away with excessive amounts of hard cheeses, which are high in fat and calories, so I wouldn't recommend eating lots of them. I second what Megs said.

When I got to the dairy rung, I didn't add MORE cheese neccessarily, I'd just subtract a serving of aged cheese for a serving of dairy.

I added the following foods on the dairy rung:
        cottage cheese
        yogurt
        heavy cream (larger amount)
        ricotta cheese

Now that you're on the dairy rung, you can make that fabulous Stella NY Cheesecake!

          Hi Cafe,

I started adding a modest portion of cottage cheese to my lunch (which I bring to work with me.) A little splenda and cinnamon, or sugar-free cocoa powder makes it a real treat.
You can also do the above recipe with the ricotta cheese.

Another thing you can do with the ricotta is mix it together with a few eggs, splenda, and a dab of vanilla and make a pancake out of it. I use a little sugar-free syrup on it.

Thank you for all your advice.

I really like the sound of the ricotta pancakes and will definetly give them a try!

Lamby, how much cheese do you use and how many eggs to make the pancakes?
