  • Peanut Butter

Hello Courtney here, I am on day 25 and ever since day 20 (I think), I have been eating peanut butter, about 3-4 TBS a day ( for protein) of it because I dont eat meat. The only soy burgers I can find here have 9 carbs each, that seems like alot. I also hate eggs, unless they are in my mock danish, I can not eat them plain without gaging or feeling sick afterwards. What does anyone recommend I do? Can i continue to eat the peanut butter or should i stop right away? I just need to know, thanks
P.s. If i stop with the peanut butter what should i eat for protein? Again im on day 25, thanks

    Courtney

        Re: Peanut Butter

Nuts are actually on the 3rd rung, right after dairy .

You can get plenty of protein without meat!

I was a vegetarian as well for several years. A couple of questions: do you eat fish at all? I'm assuming that your answer is no. I would actually skip the soy burgers--most of them are pretty processed foods-- and purchase your own tofu. You can mix it with everything, and it is perfectly legal on rung 5. Peanut butter is not allowed until after you've added more veggies and dairy.

Dairy is also a nice source of protein: an ounce of most cheeses gives you about 6 or 7 grams of protien, which is actually quite similar to the quantity found in meat.

Have you tried casseroles made with veggies and cheese-- like, say, veggie lasagne without the noodles?

Here's a nice website for recipes-- I've used it for years and love it! There is a nice section of meatless dishes as well.

          Re: Peanut Butter

2 tablespoons of peanut butter has about 4 net carbs. So 4 tablespoons has about 8 net carbs.

Tofu is allowed during Induction. So you can have it now, if you want.

There are other vegetarian alternatives. If I recall correctly, Elizellen gave you a link to the Vegetarian Atkins FAQ.

            Re: Peanut Butter

Thanks, Megs. I thought I remembered seeing that it was ok for induction but then couldn't find it anywhere. I happen to be reading AFL and it was mentioned in rung 5 there.

All the better that she can have it now, whoohoo!

It's the soy cheese in the Cheese Footnote.
