  • I'm going nuts tomorrow!

Well actually I'm nuts all the time (lol), but I get to go up one more rung on the ladder tomorrow, to nuts and seed.

I have been spending three weeks on each rung and have been doing pretty well. However, starting tomorrow I will be up to 35 net carbs and now I am starting to worry just a little. I guess this is where you really start figuring things out. How do I squeeze in 5 more carbs yet keep my calories low enough to continue to lose weight? Especially from nuts, since they are so much higher in calories. For example: For me to get in 5 net carbs in macadamia nuts, I would have to eat 75 grams, which would equal 10 carbs and 5 grams of fiber, yet the calorie count would be a whopping 550 calories!

I need to go back and read up some. Isn't there a limit to the number of nuts you can eat in a day. It seems to me that number was about 1 oz. If that is the case, then I will fall far short of bumping up my carbs by 5 grams. I guess what that means is add additional carbs from the first two rungs? Is that correct?

    I need some help! Thanks!
    Don

Dr. Atkins limits nuts and seeds to 1 ounce during OWL. Cashews are limited to 1/2 ounce.

Nuts and seeds give many people problems. So it might be better adding the 1 ounce of nuts and not increasing your carbs. Otherwise, you'll run into the problem of is it the nuts or is it the carbs that are interfering with your losses.

Have fun playing with your food!

It was during this rung that I found that I may be allergic to nuts because of experiencing sore throats, and not having a sinus cold as I thought. However, I enjoy seeds

      Best wishes on your journey!

OWL is a lot of tweaking, seeing what works for you and what doesn't, and everybody is different.
I had nut issues. I had a problem with portions, which was my fault.
All in all, I found my CCLL in the berry rung and could go no higher. Atkins relays in the DANDR that not everyone can go through all the rungs and continue losing.
After 3 1/2 months in OWL, I'm re-inducting for two weeks to get the scale moving again, then moving too the veggie rung until goal.
Enjoy your nuts, but be vigilant with those tasty little suckers!

but you could climb the rungs but keep your carbs low!!
Think of it as being a carb 'net' rather than a ladder and climb across it instead of up.
You could try adding foods from the higher rungs and test them to see which your body can handle by switching out the 5 net carbs from the first few rungs.
So stay at say 35 carbs but drop the berries or extra dairy to try some starchy veggies instead.
You could experiment with all the rungs so you could sometimes eat whole grains or a small potato but keep your carbs low and still lose weight!!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

            Hi Elizellen,

Oh...you know... I thought I had read something about this in DANDR, I skimmed through it last night and couldn't find it!
This makes me nervous, but maybe I'll go ahead and try that!
Thank you as always for your excellent advice.

You know it is kind of bad when you have to really think about how to ADD carbs! I kept thinking yesterday and today, how in the world am I going to get 35 carbs in. I planned all my meals for today and am still 12 short!

Yesterday, I did 1 oz of almonds as a snack and today I am doing 30 grams of macadamia nuts. I think I will do some yogurt as a snack this afternoon and that will spike it up a little.

Don it will get easier! Trust me. At first I was having trouble eating 35g daily. Now I'm up to 75, and boy, I thought 35 was hard...sheesh!

                  Re: I'm going nuts tomorrow!

Julie, that is good to know. I did go by and pick up some Blue Bunny yogurt that has 5 carbs in it. It is made with Splenda. Also, I had a bunless Fuddrucker's burger for lunch so I put extra veggies on it.
