  • I just don't understand

Okay guys, I am so confused about this level and yes, I went and bought the book and read it and am still confused.

I have been on OWL 2 weeks now and have consistantly added my extra 5 gms of "veggie carbs" everyday. I was at a plateau and starting adding the extra veggies in and since Thursday, I have lost like 2 or 3 more pounds! That part I am not confused about as the book says this will happen.

So here I am, the past 2 weeks at about 25 to 30 gms of carbs a day, up from my 20 to 22 that I was on during Induction. My question is this now: How many more weeks do I stay on this veggie rung and at what magic gram number do I stop adding carbs.

Please don't think I am dense because really I am not. I am just so confused. I have done other diets in the past like Weight Watchers where all you do is eat what you want as long as it is in within a certain points range and you left it at that. So this adding 5 a day and 9 rungs deal is a little confusing.

Also, and this is a biggie and please, no yelling or scolding, but I had a moment of weakness this past weekend where I ate something I should not have. I won't go into details but believe me, the meal I consumed was probably all my carbs for the entire week! How is it then possible that I lstill ost 2 more pounds since Thursday?

Thanks for any info you can give me.

    Kat

    Re: I just don't understand

Knowing I was going to restart atkins I took the past week to eat those things I had stayed away from and you know what??? I really hadn't been missing much.
    LOL
Wish I could help you but I was on extended induction...maybe this time I will start doing the rungs in order (need to read the book again)

You can stay on the veggie rung or any rung for as long as you want. I stayed on the veggie rung for a long time, because I like veggies and I wanted to try out as many of the very low carb veggies as I could.

I guess your next question would be could I keep upping my carbs and stay on the veggies? Yes you can. In fact, it might be a better option because you already know how the veggies affect your body, so if you stop losing weight, then you know it's the carb level.

How long do you keep adding the carbs? For as long as your body continues to lose weight (pounds and inches). Each of us can tolerate a particular level of carbs and still lose weight. Only a very small minority of us will only lose weight by staying at Induction level carbs, but for the rest of us, we can eat a higher level and still lose weight. We've had some members who were eating over 100 net carbs daily and still lost.

So you keep adding the carbs until you stop losing pounds and inches. Then you drop back by 5 net carbs and see if you begin to lose weight. If you do, then you know you can't eat above that number and still lose weight. So that's when you stop adding carbs.

        Re: I just don't understand

I have had similar issues with adding carbs and losing even more weight. Sometimes when I've been at a stall and then had a little too much fun on a Friday night where I might eat buffalo wings and drink some light beer, I'd find that I would actually lose 5lbs within the next week. It was like that small 'fudge' sent my metabolism into overdrive. But don't make a habit out of it, or it will outsmart you .
