I absolutely remember Book saying -- Cocoa is a spice and is therefore acceptable, so long as it doesn't contain sugar.

    I MISS BOOK!!!

Powdered cocoa is allowed in induction. It is the chocolate like baker's chocolate squares that you wait until OWL for. I do not remember which rung. Someone gave me this info and I went and checked all the chocolate products at Atkins web site. Sure enough, the products with cocoa powder were listed as induction, and the regular chocolate was listed as OWL. I just cannot remember if it is the nut rung or the legume rung for chocolate. I added it in the nut rung myself, but I thought it was allowable in induction at the time as I did not know the difference.

I think its the quantity that turns it from a 'spice' into a nut or whatever it really is.

OK, I looked it up. Chocolate is made from seeds of the cacao tree. That makes it rung 3, nuts and seeds. Enjoy your chocolate!

Chocolate-making begins in the field, not the factory. Cacao trees supply the seeds that will be processed into the delicious sweet loved ’round the world.

cocoa poder is considered a spice by the Atkins books written while Dr Atkins was alive

and actually bakers chocolate is just as induction friendly a food as mayo is it is made from a fat and a spice both legal. mayo is a fat egg and vinegar all3 induction legal making them both induction legal. go look on your lists you will be amazed mayo isn't there. It is what you do with that chocolate that determines if your usage of it is legal.

I buy Fry's cocoa which has 2g of carbs and 2g of fibre. I once bought generic cocoa and it had 3g of carb and 1g of fibre. so i'd say watch..i figure the generic had fillers.

As a side note...I heard that cocoa is one of the best spices for you..it' has huge health benefits.

                    and nurselady...I wont ask..LOL!!!!

Yep I get it at the superstore. It comes in a yellow can with Red lettering in the baking section usually (though one store i once found it with the hot chocolate mixes LOL).

I've been to Florida several times and we always rent a house and have to grocery shop down there. Can't believe how expensive it is!!! Makes me appreciate shopping here too. Found basics like milk and bread much more than here..in us $$ even!

I love cheese! sometimes I linger around the cheese section for 1/2 an hour..I love trying new cheeses i've never had before. There are so many to choose from! My current fav's are guyrere (sp?), Emmenthal and Oka.
