I want to start OWL tomorrow, but am very nervous and afraid to screw up! I lost 6lbs during week one, and I've lost 2 more lbs this week (tomorrow is my weigh-in day...I hope to have lost another by then!), which puts me in the "average" category for metabolic resistance. Any advice for a successful OWL?

Re: Day 14 of Induction...NERVOUS!
Don't afraid of another serving of yummy veggies! I stuck to induction too long at first and when I finally added more veggies, I had a big woosh. I then wished I had done it sooner.

Re: Day 14 of Induction...NERVOUS!
Like Sunny said, don't be afraid of OWL! I too experienced a "whoosh" when I started OWL. I lost 3.5 pounds that first week, and 3 pounds a week thereafter for quite some time.
After your first week of OWL Rung, I'd stick with veggies for another week. If after the first week you still lose inches/pounds, add 5g more veggie carbs the second week. After this point, you can either stay with the veggie rung and add 5g carbs each week, or you can stick with the same level of carbs and go up to rung 2.
One of my favorite rung 1 meals is spaghetti squash with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and pepperoni. It's sort of like a combination of pizza and "pasta" and it's SOOOOOOOO yummy! Since you're adding carbs, don't be afraid of higher carb veggies like the spaghetti squash, or pumpkin. Try something new off the list! Just make sure that if it's a new food, eat it only 3x the first week, and if it causes you no problems, you may eat it daily after that.

Re: Day 14 of Induction...NERVOUS!
That's what I'm saying. I waited quite a while before increasing my veggie carbs and had slowed down in pounds lost. When I upped my veggies, I lost 4 pounds that week and started losing a couple of pounds a week after that.Originally posted by edesros168so you guys are saying you actually lost more weight once you added 5 G carbs after induction??

Re: Day 14 of Induction...NERVOUS!
OK, I have another question. I've read about OWL in the book and on here..but I'm just checking: I add 5 carbs of veggies during week one...and then I have another week of rung #1. Do I add 5 more carbs of veggies or just stick with the 25 carbs until I go up another rung? I guess what I'm asking is do we add 5 carbs per rung or 5 carbs per week? It must be per rung, right?

Re: Day 14 of Induction...NERVOUS!
Go through the rungs carefully.
Make sure you are indeed eating 5 net carbs of the rung food. We have too many people mess up because they think that 1 cup is 5 net carbs for all foods.
Be sure to watch how your body reacts to the foods. Use the Blood Sugar Symptoms Test in Chapter 13 or 14 to gauge how a food is affecting you. Cravings aren't the only sign of blood sugar instability.
If you stop losing weight, don't freak out and run back to Induction. Rather calmly review your menues. See what you recently added. Look at the amount of water and exercise you are getting. If your weight loss stoppage coincides with a particular food addition, drop the food and see what happens.
You can stay on any rung for as long as you like. So, if you want to stay on Rung 1 and keep adding 5 net carbs of veggies every week, you can. I found my CCLL by staying on Rung 1. At the time it was 35. So when I moved to the other rungs, I already knew my CCLL.I add 5 carbs of veggies during week one...and then I have another week of rung #1. Do I add 5 more carbs of veggies or just stick with the 25 carbs until I go up another rung? I guess what I'm asking is do we add 5 carbs per rung or 5 carbs per week? It must be per rung, right?
If you do stay on Rung 1 to find your CCLL, you'll need to be creative with vegetable cooking. So things like vegetable sauces, vegetable soups, stuffing/layering vegetables with vegetables or meat are the way to go.~Megs~

Re: Day 14 of Induction...NERVOUS!
You can if you want. I know that doesn't really give you a set-in-stone answer, but OWL is pretty flexible because it allows you to tailor your diet to suit your needs. So if you want to hang in Rung 1 for another week and add 5 net carbs, you can.~Megs~

Re: Day 14 of Induction...NERVOUS!
Hmm. I think I'll hang out at 25 carbs next week, but just use some different veggies. After that, I'll add 5 more in the dairy rung. 30 carbs - scary!
Thanks for all your help, Megs! I'm sure I'll be back with several more questions!

Re: Day 14 of Induction...NERVOUS!
Question for not2late:
If you found your CCLL in rung 1, does that mean that you can never really advance beyond rung 1 and still lose weight?
I am afraid that might happen to me.
I am definitely moving on to OWL this time around when i get to day 14. (currently day 7). I think I always sabotage myself by staying on induction too long.
Thanks!

Re: Day 14 of Induction...NERVOUS!
You can still try foods off the other rungs, but not going above your CCLL, therefore eating much less of them!HW 303Aug '04 SW-287 LW-232Restart - Apr 07 - SW 266 CW 225
