  • low carb ice cream and milk?

i am moving on to the dairy rung monday! i lost another 3 pounds during the first rung of owl (veggies)!! anyway, i am going to add cottage cheese and some goat cheese (if anyone is interested, cut up a jar of red roasted peppers, mix them with a splash of red wine vinegar, a half a packet of splenda and a little olive oil. pour over goat cheese- you'll have to eat it with endive or something instead of crackers, but it's awesome)

anyway, i wanted to add some breyers carb smart and some carb countdown chocolate milk. is this allowed? it did not stall me last time, but i wanted to ask if it is acceptable to add these things. i am determined to climb the ladder slowly and legally so that i can find my ccl- i didn't do this last time.

    any advice would be helpful!!!!

its acceptable, as long as you only do it as 5 net carbs.

watch they dont kick you with cravings, thats what they did to me!

      Rung stickie says:

      Keep portions small for:
      Hard aged cheese
      Cream, heavy and light
      Half and half
      Sour cream
Low-carb ice cream, yogurt, and milk

Adding dairy will be so nice, but I'm REALLY lookin forward to nuts!

me too! i can't wait to have some macadamias! mmmm,,,, and some fresh berries and melon, and some edamame beans, and some beets, and some bread! looks like i have a long way to go! i have mapped out my owl rung ladder and it will be april 21st before i hit whole grains.

now, i have a question. first off, i am doing nothing to jeopardize getting to my goal weight. when i have found my ace, i will want to splurge occasionally.

for example, if i were to treat myself to chinese food once a month, and my ace was 100 grams a day (i exercise pretty vigorously so i imagine it will be in that range) and i went over, do i make it up the next day by eating less carbs? how does that work?

Treat yourself with something that isnt food!

I would avoid the chinese, period.

I agree with Emma. Why spoil something you've worked so hard to maintain?
This kind of diet is really not cheat friendly so think about some other goal rewards like..a facial, clothing, a trip..etc. There are threads for reward ideas going around too.

Re: low carb ice cream and milk?

                that was like food-porn

you could make the faux fried rice with unbattered chicken fingers and, could you make your own duck sauce and replace the sugar with splenda?

Jalapeno poppers rock, i used to wrap mine in bacon too, they seem to burn away my cravings for anything,

Re: low carb ice cream and milk?

                  Hi,

I am not sure what you mean by your ace, but if you mean your ccll to me i would wait until you are on maintanence. Why? Well a couple things -- first of all, most people here on Atkins are carb addicts, and you have to treat this addiction like you do all other addictions and realize that you easily could fall off the wagon into a pool of no control. If you wait until maintenance to experiment with foods you love you 1) aren't still trying to lose weight but instead maintain, so if these foods kick you out of ketosis, you aren't going to harmining yourself and your journey to your goal weight. 2) I fully believe Dr. Atkins plan gets us to maintenence its a concept of understanding not only your body but how it reacts to certain foods etc, AND it allows us to endulge (NOW AND AGAIN with NOW AND AGAIN being few and far between) and then only in MAJOR moderation with you falling back into your regular eating (low carb) with your next bite after any endulgence. I don't think you are prepared to do so when you are on anything but maintence and even then you have to watch yourself. Dr. A did understand that their are endulgences in food but people who gain weight and lose control over their eating take endulgence to extreme and don't keep things in moderation and endulgence. When you are on maintences you aren't "cheating" or falling off plan, you are using what you learned and know about your new way of eating and your body to enjoy yourself now and again with a bite or so of food you enjoy outside your plan and then turning around and getting right back to eating correctly.

Also, you have to learn and recognize that much of what is given to us in restraurants is WAY WAY WAY over in portion sizes, so unless you can control yourself to eat only a portion of what you would like to taste, i would be very cautious about putting yourself in that situation and would wait until you have maintained your weight loss for at least 6 months to a year.

You don't have to deny yourself tastes now and again of your favorite food once you meet maintence but you will have to know yourself, be honest with yourself, weigh the consequences (no pun intended), and honestly recognize if this will sabotage your way of eating so much that you may not stick with the maintence of same.

Moderation, portion control and giving and taking in an exchange concept is maintaining... if you endulge in very very small moderation, following portion control as well as putting some extra exercise in or whatnot to counter any negative it may have on your body, i do not believe Dr. A expects people to deny themselves for the rest of their lives without a taste of things you may enjoy, he gives you the rungs to work up so you understand each and every concept he is trying to teach you as we;; as effects on your body to make informed choices and understandings when you reach maintenance.

This is just my take, before you worry about chinese, i seriously would worry about the plan and understanding what each rung is trying to teach you and wait until you are fully in maintences to consider even considering endulgences.

I love the (to find no better word) strictness or should I say determination of these ADBB people. I think reading this posts helps me refrain from cheating. I think "they did it, I can too". I made the mock fried rice with cauliflower for my DH and our friends we are visiting and they absolutely loved it. They all said this was going to be one of their regulars. It is so good. I put crumbled fried bacon in it, the green onions, and scrambled eggs. If you don't have the recipe, I can give it to you. Maybe that would help the Chinese food cravings along with the others suggestions.

Re: low carb ice cream and milk?

yes, i meant when i was in maintenence phase, not while losing weight. i don't plan to deny myself treats once in a while. i am not going to gain back 60 pounds from some chicken fingers. i understand that some people have a problem with falling off the wagon, per se, but i am not one of them. i am not bragging- i simply have the will power to endulge once a month and stop at that.

as for ketosis, i was under the understanding that once you are on lifetime maintenence, you are no longer in ketosis? is that correct? i don't think ketosis is a healthy state to be in for the rest of your life. correct me if i am wrong- i have lent my dandr book to so many people that it is now lost....
