    Re: SPLENDA alternatives

Yup berries are next (i love my berries, i just ate a handful of blueberries 5 mins ago!)

I also do like stevia, but find it does take a bit of getting used to. I haven't used it in a while, i used sodium cyclcamates (not avail in the US), still and artificial sweetener, but i find like the taste better than splenda and it doesn't caue issues for me.

As far as foods tasting sweeter now...I used to have to put a teaspoon of sugar on my grapefruit before I could think about eating it, now it tastes so sweet to me! I couldn't imagine sweetening it anymore!

Also, when i make pasta for my husband, and i open the sealed spagettie container i keep it in, i can actually smell the sugars in the uncooked pasta...it sounds strange, but it really gives off a sweet smell to me now!

Correct. Berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries) and melons are allowed on rung 4. It's advised to have "normal" portions of berries worth 5g carbs, but keep melon portions small. (They are a higher GI food.)

so i can have the correct amount of berries that equal 5 grams of carbs, correct? so instead of adding them in 1oz increments like nuts, i can immediately go for 5 grams, right? it's been so long since i did this diet, i am confused! but i think i have the important parts down. what worked REALLY well for me was to eat an atkins bar or atkins cereal bar for breakfast. but that is not advised now?

          Re: SPLENDA alternatives

You could try the atkins bars or cereals once you reach the OWL rung that allows all the ingredients in them and see how you go. As far as I know all the bars contain either soya or peanut products and some have grain products so would only be 'legal' at the relevant rungs.

See, I have always been under the impression that Splenda is a type of sugar alcohol for some reason.. Well anyway, propaply because I don't consume it much anyway.. Sorry for the confusion there.
