  • Questions...

Alright, so I've skipped a few rungs because I don't really eat from them normally. I'm now in the 5-10 lb range of my goal. I'm considering doing a modified version of the Atkins diet and the Abs diet...which the only difference I'll be incorporating are whole grain breads and oatmeal along with fruits and veggies...Would this be considered pre-maintenance or maintenance? And since I've been losing the last 2 weeks eating whole grain tortillas, is this a good sign that I should be alright in this modification? Just looking for some input...Thank you

OWL phase allows for the inclusion of grains, like wheat, corn, rice, rye, oats, etc. during the Grains Rung. So including these foods isn't really a deviation of Atkins OWL Phase at all.

If you did skip a few rungs because you normally don't eat those foods, I'm not quite sure why you skipped the OWL Grains Rung too.

Anyhow, before you plung into Pre-Maintenance, you should know your CCLL. During Pre-Maintenance, your job is to find your CCML (critical carbohydrate MAINTENANCE level), and that won't be any easy task if you don't know what your CCLL is.

Maintenance phase is not a weight loss phase. It is the weight maintenance phase of Atkins. So if you have 5-10 pounds left, you don't want to go on Maintenance Phase because you still have weight to lose.

Well, I wouldn't say that I did skip the grains rung considering I've been eating whole wheat tortillas and low carb tortillas.

I've heard that I need to find the CCLL...But I guess I don't understand how to do that. Every time I add 5 net carbs, I seem to start losing again. I'm now averaging about 60 g and have been losing steadily. So, do I go crazy and eat a lot of carbs one week just to see if it has halted my weight loss? I guess I'm just unclear about it.

And I thought I read that once you have 5-10 lbs left to lose, you should start maintenance...but maybe I was mistaken and it said pre-maint. I dont know.

You don't "go crazy" and add carbs, you add them in 5 net carbs at a time. You might want to revisit the rungs you skipped and see if you do or are willing to eat some of the items on them. I loved that I could have some pinto beans with my chili or I was able to have hummus with my rye crackers. Ditto for the other fruit rung--I was able to have things like pineapple, mango, apples, pears, peaches, etc.

The book says to move to Pre-Maintenance for your last 5-10 pounds. AGain, Maintenance Phase means you are maintaining your goal weight. It's not a weight loss phase.
