  • When to move to OWL???

    Hi everyone,

I have had success with atkins before, well i shoud say induction because i never moved on to OWL.

I do have a goo chunk of weight to lose, probably around 100 pounds. How long should i stay on induction before i move to OWL??

For those of you on OWL, do you experience good weight loss??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!!

Re: When to move to OWL???

I lost 60 pounds on OWL. So I would say, yes you do lose well on OWL.

Dr. Atkins meant OWL to be the primary weight loss phase of his diet. Alot of people skip it, hoping to get to goal faster, but that's not always the case. Moreover, OWL is when you learn what foods do to your body. For example, I learned that cantaloupe triggers cravings for me. If I waited until my last 20 or 30 pounds to move to OWL, I would have either glossed over trying out various foods and when I made it to Maintenance, I would be overeating whenever I ate cantaloupe, regain my weight, and have to start all over again.

With that said, it's an individual choice, when to move on. But as Dr. Atkins wrote, staying on Induction longer than 2 weeks may be helpful for the severely metabolically resistant to weight loss because it may correct the imbalances that make them resistant. That's why I always advise if you don't have a high metabolic resistance, move on because from te experience of folks on this board who stay on Induction too long, they either cheat and fall off the diet completely or they hit a stall that isn't broken until they move to OWL.

My first go round with Atkins in 2004 I never left induction. BIG MISTAKE! I'm here in OWL now after going through 4 weeks of induction. I'm pleased. I haven't weighed myself this week, but I'm definitely losing. I can feel it. I am also enjoying the additional food options of OWL.

Thanks for this post! Not2late...you are right...the past times that I have tried Atkins...I stayed with Induction for too long...and I broke down & cheated...which then lead to quiting completely.
