Heh, this morning I'm finally down to 240.5, and this the week just before TOM shows up. i think I'm retaining a bit of water, but not a whole lot. I imagine i'l break into the 230's and stay there by sunday! I can't wait to see what the next 2 weeks bring after TOM goes away since I usually have quite the whoosie when the extra water goes and the snow's going away (with the exception of the little bit we got last night) so i'll be able to start riding Sunny lots pretty soon - yay!

                  Loonatika,
Great news on the weight loss and the high CCLM. I do have a question. Did you lose the 45 lbs over a year?

Re: Really upped the carbs and still losing

Loonatika's experience is something all Atkineers should read. And I'm glad she posted this thread over a year ago.

First of all, Loona is one of those people who can eat above 100 net carbs daily and lose weight. That squashes those rumors that you will not lose weight unless you keep your carbs "very low". Alot of people come into this diet and believe that the only way to lose weight and maintain weight is to eat 20 net carbs of food forever. Not so. The amount of carbs you can eat depends on your metabolism and your CCLL. Only a very small percentage of us need to keep our net carbs between 15-20 in order to lose weight.

Sometimes we get questions like "If I can eat more than 20 net carbs and lose weight, why are we limited to 20 net carbs on Induction?" According to the book, that limitation is in place because 20 net carbs is low enough for the majority of people to begin lipolysis/ketosis. Dr. Atkins is assuming that when we begin his diet, we do not know our carbohydrate sensitivity. So he purposefully made the Induction carbs low so we can all begin lipolysis/ketosis. That's why in Chapter 12 and 13 of DANDR 2002, he has the metabolic resistance charts. So we can check our metabolic resistance and know that what levels our bodies can most likely handle. In other words, unless you have a high metabolic resistance to weight loss or if you have some kind of medical condition (thyroid disease, certain prescription medications, hyperinsulinemia, candida) that increases your metabolic resistance, you will most likely be able to eat above 20 net carbs daily and lose weight.

Secondly, Loona's experience shows that weight loss doesn't come to a screeching halt when you start OWL. That's another horrible rumor/fear plenty of Atkineers have. The weight loss "slow down" might be losing 4 pounds a week instead of 5. All too often, I read threads where people are fearful of moving to OWL because they falsely believe they'll never lose weight again. But that fear is irrational because if that were so, why would Dr. Atkins this phase "On-Going Weight Loss".

I do wish Loonatika will return to ADBB. I can only assume "real" life has prevented her from visiting us.

she was awesome and I agree totally with Megs ...I eat between 40-60 and can go higher if I am not eating anything "white" sugar flour or other refined stuff

I wish she would come back as well just to let us know how the darling baby girl in NZ is doing
