  • BEANS and low Glycemic Index foods... question

I know this diet is all about controlling the release of insulin into the blood stream. Insulin is released by blood sugar and is what stores fat in the body and arteries. Low G.I. foods convert to glucose very slowly.

    That said...

Is it okay to eat low Glycemic index foods, such as beans? I'd like to read some ideas on this and if we can mix the atkins diet with a low gycemic index food diet?

Legumes are allowed during OWL, Pre-Maintenance and Maintenance Phases. However, they are higher up on the OWL and Pre-Maintenance carb ladder rungs, so they aren't among the first foods reintroduced after Induction.

As for low GI diet and Atkins---that's what OWL, Pre-Maintenance, and Maintenance are----a low GI diet within the confines of Dr. Atkin's rules for his Diet.

Thank... I've lost nearly 50 lbs in 6 months but have another 40 or so to go... how do you know what rung you're on or when to truly come off induction. I've never allowed myself to completely come out of induction. When should I allow eating beans and such?

You have started to think about other foods so it may be time to look into OWL. Read the chapter in the book. Explains it well

And you have to start taking the steps needed to learn the things you need to learn to be able to maintain your weightloss. If you don't it will all be in vain.

Here are a couple of posts to help you.
