  • well duh, no KFC

I should have known...even original recipe kfc has a quite a dusting of flour on it. One of those things you know in the back of your mind, but hope maybe it isn't so.

Gained a few pounds overnight ...been trying so hard to get below 180. Anyhow, I've told everyone that if anyone brings kfc home I'm not eating it.

Of course, DH is losing weight faster than Speedy Gonzales can run...but men have that metabolic advantage as Dr. Atkins said.

    Ok, KFC rant over

Are you talking about the grilled or the fried? I haven't had either since I've started Atkins, but I would think that the grilled wouldn't have any flour on it. (But I'd check first before eating any.)

Don't worry about your slip-up. Lesson learned, now move on. You'll be back to losing in no time.

I tried the grilled and didn't like it. Also I am always suspicious of what they might marinade the grilled with, if anything.

I've had the grilled before, but that was prior to starting the Atkins lifestyle.

I found info on the grilled HERE, they claim it has 0 carbs. So, maybe it's not so bad after all.

          >>I would think that the grilled wouldn't have any flour on it.>>

Whether or not is has flour ON it, it's not really Atkins friendly, in my opinion.

While the nutritional "label" may lead you to believe it's 0 carbs, looking at the list of ingredients shows this:

          KFC® Grilled Chicken
Fresh Chicken Marinated With: Salt, Sodium Phosphate, and Monosodium Glutamate. Seasoned With: Maltodextrin, Salt, Bleached Wheat Flour, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and Cottonseed Oil, Monosodium Glutamate, Secret Kentucky Grilled Chicken Spices, Palm Oil, Natural Flavor, Garlic Powder, Soy Sauce (Soybean, Wheat, Salt), Chicken Fat, Chicken Broth, Autolyzed Yeast, Beef Powder, Rendered Beef Fat, Extractives of Turmeric, Dehydrated Carrot, Onion Powder, and Not More Than 2% Each of Calcium Silicate and Silicon Dioxide Added As Anticaking Agents.
          Contains Wheat and Soy.

As if it's not bad enough, there's trans fats, too.

We don't have those grilled ones in Canada. Our only KFC option are the breaded ones. (I think)

But you have bratwurst? and sauerkraut and mustard

(Lisa is in Canada just like me so I think she could not have had grilled chicken kfc. I had to check the webpage. And they do offer grilled ones in Canada as a trial at select places. Not sure where)

                  Re: well duh, no KFC

Several years ago and on Atkins I was at a friend's house for lunch. She produced a takeout order of fried chicken offering a casual lunch. I took the skin off and just had the chicken... and all the while worried what carbs might have sneaked inside since it had been pressure fried. It didn't throw off my blood sugar at the time, but it was miserable eating something so untrustworthy.

I would have to say after looking at the ingredients list that the SALT is what really got you!!!! Usually the ingredients is listed with the highest amount first and then it is less and less... SALT was first marinated, and second on the seasoned with... That is probably your extra pounds came from ...

Drink, Drink, Drink, plenty of water.... and give it a few days, you should bounce right back...

Yep that stuff is pretty darn salty. I stay away from it as much as possible.

I did have some the other night though...we were having dinner with my aunt in law whom I had just met. I did what Suzanne did, I removed the skin as best as possible. I ate very little from it. I had more of the other foods like salad and ham, and declined the baked holiday desserts she made.

I don't look for fast food or crave it at all, my cooking is so much better, BUT it's the convience factor I miss. I used to pick up pizza or Chinese or something occasionally and look forward to the ease of it. A few weeks ago I picked up a rotissere chicken at BJ's and read the label..sugar, HFCS, MSG and potato starch. Well I was sad to see that and of course I put the thing down. Why do you need all of that garbage to roast a chicken???

Then the other day I was at a vegetable market/gormet foods type place and their rotissere chicken was half the size and twice the price but listed ingredients as chicken, sea salt , paprika and pepper. I paid the money for the convience, but why do we have to pay MORE to get LESS. There is something really wrong with our poisonous food system in America!

I have wondered that myself. Why is there sugar on everything? Just like you were saying, what on earth do they need to put sugar and cornstarch on rotisserie chicken for...IMO it would taste better without it.

Btw, there are a few fast food choices you have. MY DH and I used to order chinese food a lot, just because we loved the food. Dr. Atkins said you can still have egg foo young (minus the gravy and rice of course) and egg drop soup. Where we used to live, the restaurant had very yummy egg foo young and egg drop soup. Where I'm living now, the egg foo young is *nasty* and they didnt' have egg drop soup. They had duck meat soup though, which tastes even better Could just be the particular restaurant too.

you could maybe try the new kfc baked chicken if necessary in the future?

probably better to just forget kfc exists though.

I think if you google for the ingredients of the baked chicken you will find several non-Atkins ingredients in the stuff they inject it with to make it moist and tasty
