  • RUNG 4.. questions

Started RUNG 4 today. Can already tell I am not going to like it after 6 raspberries. And I have strawberries and blueberries waiting for me too.

Can I skip this and go to legumes?

Also did anyone get to a carb level they just liked and felt good at and didn't complete the RUNGs? Maybe I spent too much time on 3 and got complacent?

Do you not like berries/melons? If you don't want to add berries, then don't? What about melon ... like cantaloupe/honeydew?

Dr. Atkins wrote that not everyone will get to rung 9 ... that's part of finding out your CCCL.

        Re: RUNG 4.. questions

I skipped rung 5 and went to 6. I find I don't care for berries on their own but added with some yogurt or cream they go down much better. I also only add a few and usually don't even make the 5 carb limit on them. It is a little dab will do you kinda thing. I had thought about skipping them but then thought there may come a time later on that I will want something that has them and then I will have to go back to that rung so I did the rung and got it out of the way. The drinking rung I knew I could skip because I don't drink at all. I am on the legumes rung now. I may sit here another week as I tried kidney beans this week and next week I want to try a little natural peanut butter. After that I will move on again. I am almost ready for pre maint and still have not hit my CCL yet. I need to start working on that as well. It looks like I may have a high CCL which is ok by me.

          Re: RUNG 4.. questions

True Atkinsgal about not everyone getting to RUNG 9. I didn't feel as though they would satisfy me but felt I needed to eat them to complete out my diet as a whole if my CCLL wasn't at this level. Also afraid of their higher glycemic index and making me hungier. So far the 6 berries didn't make me hungier, it's been 4.5 hours since I ate them.

Maybe I will finish out what I bought over the next week and see how I do. I added the 6 berries to Fage today. But I definetly won't be near my 40 net today unless I force food down my throat.

I like melon but also afraid of it making me hungier. But I guess if I don't overindulge I shouldn't have a problem. Nor do I have to eat fruit everyday.

Thanks, I will post if I have an intolerance or a reaction.

You must not be afraid of carbs. Give them a chance. If they actually give you an issue then skip them. I can eat rung 4 foods if I eat them with something fatty - cream, cream cheese, yogurt and nuts are my choices.

I will give the berries a try, I am making a LC dessert and will add them in....gotta love anything with heavy cream.

Just very afraid of the glycemic affects, but won't know unless I try.

                Re: RUNG 4.. questions

I usually have berries with my Greek yogurt or sometimes in salads. I use to love cottage cheese and cantelope so I'm looking forward to trying that when melons are in season.

I wasn't that thrilled with the berry/melon rung at first as I'm not really a big fruit eater. But having them with something else has been pretty tasty.

                  Re: RUNG 4.. questions

I live in Holland and it is very popular here to eat berries and/or nuts on salads such as my favorite, a goats cheese salad.

One day I will learn how to make yummy salads that way. It tastes like such a treat.

Good Morning, I will eat some berries this morning with my yogurt again. And maybe a few more with a dessert I made last night.

Yep, not feeling the berries, even with fat added. I might consider dipping strawberries into cream cheese every so often as a treat.

I am going to finish what I have and move back to RUNG 3. Since I did the no weigh challenge I won't know if the berries will affect me until next Sunday. Which is fine.

Today I ate 14 blueberries and 2 strawberries. I know I should have waited and ate them one at a time since I ate 6 raspberries yesterday.

                        Thanks for listening.

My carb count will only be about 34 grams today even with the additional berries.

                          >>move back to RUNG 3. S>>

Why are you going backwards? The point is to move forward.

                          >>Today I ate 14 blueberries and 2 strawberries. I know I should have waited and ate them one at a time since I ate 6 raspberries yesterday.>>

How will you know what food is a problem, if one of them is?

Why don't you feel that following the guidelines of adding one new food at a time 3 times a week is something that "you" should do?

have you experienced any of the 'blood sugar symptoms' listed in DANDR? That would indicate possible problems with any newly added foods.

How many net carbs did you average on induction? Remember in OWL we do not automatically jump to 25 on the first rung, 30 on the second etc but add 5 net carbs to our normal induction number.
                            If you only ate around 12 net carbs on induction your rung 4 'goal' would be 32 net carbs (induction 12 + 5 for rung 1 + 5 for rung 2 + 5 for rung 3 + 5 for rung 4 = 32)
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

glad you are expressing your concerns about a higher rung and then testing it to see if it is a problem for you. since you are not having any glucose effects from the berries so far and you are having them with a fat as Dr Atkins tells us in DANDER you could just stay on rung 4 until your weigh in day and see how you did with your new higher toital net carbs.

Don't forget you can do cranberries too if you can find any sugar free ones this time of yr. I buy a yrs worth in Nov and freeze/dry them for the rest of the yr.
