  • Has anyone tried Tha Fat Fast diet?

    Hi!

Yesterday I was reading Dr. Atkins book and found a small article about The Fat Fast diet. Maybe some of you have tried it. If so, is it worth to give it a go or is it better to stick to Dr. Atkins diet? What results did you achieve (weight loss, inches and etc)?

    Thanks!

Hi. Fat Fast isn't a separate diet. It's for the folks who are severely resistant to weight loss.

"Severely resistant to weight loss" means
    1. You followed the book exactly during Induction and didn't lose any weight. In other words, you only ate what was listed on the Induction Acceptable Foods list. You followed the rules of Induction. You exercised. You took your vitamin supplements. Etc.
    2. You've been to your doctor to determine if you have any of these conditions that might increase your resistance to weight loss: hyperinsulinism, thyroid problems, and yeast overgrowth. If any of these things apply to you, then your doctor should be able to give you treatments to help you with these problems.
    3. You've been to your doctor to determine if any medications you are on is interfering with your weight loss. Dr. Atkins cites anti-arthritis medications, steroids, hormones (birth control pills, HRTs), anti-depressants, diuretics and beta-blockers as some of the medications that can interfere with weight loss. If you are on any of these medications, you should sit down with your doctor and try to figure out if any alternatives can be given to you instead.

So if you did Induction, but didn't lose weight because you were having "bites" of bread, pasta, potatoes, cakes, cookies, and other foods not acceptable for Induction, the fat fast isn't for you. Or if you're losing weight, but you're not happy you're not losing "faster", the fat fast isn't for you because by losing weight, you have proven you aren't severely metabolically resistant to weight loss.

I did fat fasts the first time I did Atkins 4 years ago. If I didn't lose for 18 days in a row, I'd fat fast for 2 or 3 and get a great 3 or 4 pound whoosh (loss). It's not a yummy diet, but it does work. Good luck

More Splendid Low-Carbing was written during a time when I was trying desperately to lose weight and using the Fat Fast to help me, as I was severely metabolically resistant to weight loss due to the Hashimoto’s, which was as yet still untreated at this stage and still undiscovered. Therefore, this book contains a lot of Fat Fast-type recipes and menu suggestions, which are also good for induction obviously. All recipes are below 10 g carbs, 75% are below 5 g carbs and 50% are below 3 g carbs.
