Re: How much weight do you have to lose before someone notices?
When I lost my weight, NOBODY noticed. lol
You see, I'd started Atkins after moving to Manhattan in 2001, in the summertime before classes began. (Didn't know anyone yet!) As classes began, I was already about 125 and a size 6-8 from 141 and a tight 10. The last 15 pounds came off very slowly during my first semester at this new school, and I made goal before winter break. People at school didn't really know me well enough from before to notice that I was losing, and 15 pounds over a few months off of someone they don't know ... it was lost on them. lol
Meanwhile, my husband married me when I was at my heaviest, so while he was saying I looked great as I lost, he was hardly ever one to say, "You don't need to be eating that, honey!" LOL My family & friends loved me the way I was, even though according to medical charts for my sex and height, I was indeed carrying extra weight on my 5'3" frame. Thus I can say with utmost certainty that this weight loss was 150% for me and nobody else. My default, I had to keep myself pumped - and if anything, I believe this has helped me stay motivated and consistent long after claiming goal almost 4 years ago.
My point? Focus on the tape measure, your clothes, the mirror, and even the scale! Have your body fat taken by a professional as early on as you can, and don't treat yourself to it again 'til you've made goal! Take Polaroids of yourself standing - or better yet, sitting - in front of a full-length mirror once a month, wearing as little as possible. (Cut off the head if it sets your mind at ease!) Take pleasure in buying new clothes ... or having your old ones taken in to better fit your new body. Enjoy the obvious admiration from the opposite sex. Stay focused, and keep your eye on the prize, and you'll have only the most important person involved - yourself - to thank for it.

I find that quite fascinating.
