  • Question

Is it possible to lose about 65 pounds in about a year from this day?

By doing induction for a extended period and jogging at a half mile a day increasing .10 each week?

    Thanks.....

    Re: Question

It's possible, but it depends on a lot of variables, so I don't think any one of us could guarantee a yes or no.
How much do you weigh and what is your goal? How tall are you, and how old are you? After your two week induction period did your weight loss tell you your metabolism was fast, average or slow? (page 158 in DANDR)

      Re: Question

Definitely. I lost 60lbs in a year. I was on extended induction for three months. My exercise regimen when I started was 4hrs a week of a combination of resistance training and martial arts. On the second half of the year, I upped my exercise to 6hrs a week. Your mileage may vary but it's very doable.

      Just a couple of caveats:

My goal is to lose 80lbs. As you can see in my profile, the last 15lbs are a bit stuborn. If your ultimate goal is to lose 65lbs (60lbs was a minor goal for me), your weight loss might dramatically slow down after losing 50lbs.

I can't tell if you're male or female. Women tend to lose weight more slowly than men.

        Re: Question

I did the math, reveiwed the math (and again and again in my head) and figured that I will be able to if I continue excerising and stay on a loose (meaning I will allow myself to have shakes if the strips turn purple and later sugar free/low carb candy, if I continue burning) extended induction.

          Re: Question

Relying on the strips isn't the best idea. All the ketostix tells you is fat is being broken down. However, the stix don't tell you if that fat is the fat you ate or the fat on your body.

You might want to go to the OWL forum and read the posts of the folks who achieved better weight loss when they moved from extended Induction to OWL.

            Re: Question

I agree with what was posted, it's possible. Much depends on your stats, metabolic resistence, food intolerances (especially to those sugar alcohols in those foods you want to eat) etc. I'm not sure if a sixty pound loss is your goal weight but if it is, you should NOT stay on induction until you reach your goal weight. It's very important to remember that there are four phases of Atkins, each one very important.

              Re: Question

I lost 70 lbs in about 8 months and was on extended induction for 4 of those months. I won't say it was easy, but the weight just melted off. I don't think I stalled for a week at a time and only maybe twice. Exercised 5-6 days a week for at least 45 minutes a day and kicked my butt each time. It's definately doable but your really have to set your mind to do it and never look back.

                Re: Question

and get that low carb candy off your mind if you want to lose that weight quickly. When you consume sugar alcohols, your body will burn those first and you stop burning body fat. If you want this bad.......you must work hard.

                  Re: Question

I lost 100 pounds in 7 months, but I was really overweight, have an excruciatingly high metabolism and exercise a lot. Those variables are different for everyone and your mileage may vary.

You owe it to yourself to have the cleanest induction and follow-up period you have, coupled with daily exercise. Too quickly the time goes by and you're left asking yourself if you could have done more earlier in the game.

So be faithful to Atkins and you'll find that weight will come off.

                    Re: Question

On the flip side....I have lost 31 pounds in 9 months....and I weighed 278 when I started, weigh 247 now and my goal is 145. It has been sloooowwww going to me. I've cheated though and had weeks off the diet, but exercised almost the whole time.

You really do have to set your mind to it.

                      Re: Question

You guys bring up some good points.

                      Butttttt

(I had a whole list in my head and forgot it )

                      Oh yea,

I weight myself every morning. But the scale isnt 100% reliable either. Like, on tuesday I weight 230, then on wensday I weighed 232. I know I didnt gain 2 pounds of fat in one day. A mixure of the strips and the scale is really the only good way to tell if you are losing weight.

I only plan on staying in induction till I make 200. Then ill move into OWL.

The candy isnt my first pick of a LC sweet. I like atkins shakes better. And they dont have sugar achohols I think.

I excerise everyday, running on the treadmill, and I increase it .10 of a mile each week. I plan on stoping adding increments till I am losing about 3 pounds a week. Then it is only like 15 weeks till I make goal.

I dont plan on cheating, even when I am angry I go grad a pork rib baked in LC bbq

                        Re: Question

Yes it definately is possible, as long as you stay on plan, and drink lotsa water, and then more, exercise, exercise, and more exercise, and watch your carb intake diligently. I have lost 77 lbs in 8 months! I was in extended induction for 5 months, and then moved into OWL, where I am still consistantly losing, but at a bit of a slower rate. But for me the variety of food in Owl is important, so I don't mind the slower weight loss rate. Good luck, it is doeable, depending on how much you really want it!!!

                          Measurements
I hope you followed my suggestion to measure your chest, waist, hips, upper arms and thighs with a tape measure. The loss of inches is an indication of real success and sometimes occurs when weight loss is only marginal.....Your loss of inches is of fundamental imporantance, for it represents real fat loss---the emptying of your fat cells.
Again, the stix do not tell you if the fat being metabolized if body fat or if it the fat you've eaten with your last meal.
