  • Green Tea Counts.....?

    Hello all you knowledgeable Atkineers!

Question, how many calories and carbs do you count for a cup (tea bag) of regular green tea?

Your responses would be greatly appreciated!

According to Dana Carpender's Carb gRam Counter book, 1 cup (8 fluid ounces) of brewed tea contains 1 calorie, 0 total carbs. However, Dr. Atkins' carb gram counter lists brewed tea as having 0.9 net carbs for 1 cup (8 fluid ounces).

Once you add extra stuff, like cream, to the tea, you'll have to adjust the cals and carbs accordingly.

Also, watch the caffeine. There are decaf. green teas out there.

So from your sources, 1 cup of regular green tea has 1 carb and 1 calorie?

        Hmmm....ok, thank you.

I like it plain, no additives....but my office supplies free regular green tea....I'm probably not going to buy decaf, but we'll see, I'm keep my "eye" on the caffeine

        Thanks.

        Anyone else have anything different?

I did read here that you can decaffeinate your regular tea by pouring away the water after it has 'brewed' for a short while (cant remember how long though) and adding fresh water to the bag. apparently most of the caffeine is released from the bag in the first minute or so.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I "heard" that too, but it doesn't really make sense to me....wouldn't the caffeine be distributed evenly throughout the tea bag? And if you "rinsed" the tea bag and then used it again, do you lose out on the beneficial elements in the tea itself?

The caffiene is released within the first few minutes of brewing.

IIRC, for a tea bag, 80% of the caffeine is released in the first 30 secs. I assume if you re-use a tea bag that has been dunked for more than a minute, the resulting tea might be a bit watery.
