  • Grab and go breakfasts???

I am finding it hard to do breakfasts for myself in the mornings while on induction.
Are there any "quick" foods that you can grab and eat while headed to work. Some mornings I just don't have time to make an egg breakfast before work. Maybe I'm just in a rutt.
Thanks for the help and I hope I posted this in the correct spot.

    Re: Grab and go breakfasts???

My favorite thing for breakfast is crustless quiche. There's a recipe in the back of DANDR, and probably a few variations in the recipe forum here as well. I make mine in a 9 x 13 glass casserole pan and cut it up into 12 squares. Nuke it for 1 minute in the morning, and there's your breakfast. I think the crustless quiche tastes so much better than scrambled eggs or omelettes (must be all that heavy cream!)

Here's another recipe that's truly grab & go. These have an almost breadlike consistency, and are really good to eat cold. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=5569

One of my favorite quick breakfast "meals" is a small sliced granny smith apple (low on glycemic index) dipped into some natural peanut butter or almond butter...you can also add some cinnamon and maybe just a touch of honey. You'll be amazed at how full this will make you feel. This is also good for a late-night snack.

Since you're looking for induction ideas (Street Corner Philosopher's is NOT induction, it's for a pretty high OWL rung), I really recommend making up little quiches (using the recipes) in greased muffin cups and freezing them. I then can microwave them individually for a quick grab and go snack-meal!

Also, things like devilled eggs and hard-boiled eggs make good grab-and-go snacks

String cheese is another good choice. Only don't try peeling while driving.

I think you must have missed the word Induction ... let me check if any of those foods are on the acceptable food list, apple NO, peanutbutter NO, Honey NO ... but hey the cinnamon is okay ...

I'm sure you're just trying to be helpful, right?

The breakfast casserole is a great induction grab and go......make it on the weekend, cut into individual pieces and you'll have breakfast made for the entire week! I'm not on induction any more, but its still my favorite brekkie!

Thanks for the help with that.
The quiche sounds good, I'll go find the recipe and make that up this afternoon.
And I did catch that apple on the no no list....lol and the peanutbutter and the honey...sounds good though.

This morning I made my first omelette with a little chesses and ham. Wasn't too bad but needed a little more cheese for taste.

If you need some oomphies for your eggs, try adding chopped up jalapeno slices from a jar. About 2 slices per egg does the trick rather nicely!

                  Re: Grab and go breakfasts???

Yea Granny smith apples may not be on the official list of foods for induction, but TONSofFUN asked for a quick food she could grab and eat on the way to work. So far none of the other suggestions have been quick or easy. I've actually done some research on granny smith apples:

                  ------------------------------------------------
1 medium granny smith apple Per Serving: 62 Calories; trace Fat (1.8% calories from fat); trace Protein; 16g Carbohydrate; 3g Dietary Fiber; 0mg Cholesterol; 3mg Sodium. Exchanges: 1 Fruit.

                  -----------------------------------------------

I suggested a SMALL granny smith apple. Maybe TONSofFUN could even eat half the apple and end up with only 8 carbs. It's just like anything else. You could have a huge steak for breakfast that has no carbs, but since it's huge you're probably not going to be contributing to any weight-loss. Losing weight is not just about specific food choices, but also about food quantity and quality.

She asked for induction foods, Street!

Apples are not induction. It's ok! We all make mistakes!

Unfortunately the poster is on induction and none of the above are induction friendly. We take induction VERY seriously around here.........by the book! To start the day on induction with an apple with so many carbs is just asking for a blood sugar spike and a day of cravings........ IMHO.

If you look in the Food/Chat section, Pau posted a terrific recipe for "breakfast muffins".

I'm not on Induction, but I still eat an "induction-style" breakfast.

i've been trying to think "quick". i don't have to rush in the morning, there is no schedule, i don't have to run off to work.

thinking outside the box a bit has helped me. i really don't eggs all that much anymore.

how about some ham and cheese roll ups? with some very thinly slice cucumbers? or use roast beef. you could crock pot the roast or ham over the weed end, have some of it for dinner and use the rest as roll ups. they could be done the night before, placed in a ziploc and then you just grab and go! i do this kind of thing for lunch quite often. they hold together good with a toothpick or two.

Probably not too helpful if you're tired of eggs... but I've tried out a few of these recipes and liked them. I made up the nibbles with crumbled bacon in the bottom of a mini-muffin pan, then topped with salsa (watch tomatoes and onions on Induction). I made up the batch on Sunday, then kept them in the fridge, grabbing a few on the way to work.

You can make up some celery and cream cheese sticks the night before, then munch on in the car. Cheese sticks are good, but I found one didn't satisfy me for breakfast, and I was way over 4 oz for the day when I went that route (loooove cheese (that's why I moved to WI)).

I have also been known to stop at McDonalds on the way in to get a breakfast sandwich. Bagels are the easiest, since the croissants and muffins tend to fall apart when you take the bread off.

You can also fry up some bacon beforehand and grab a few slices on the way out the door.

I also hear you can microwave scrambled eggs (even seen it done) but I'm not brave enough to try it.

Try not to skip breakfast though, as it really does help with the weight loss thing. I've found that if nothing else changes, I lose faster when I eat breakfast on a regular basis.
