I was searching around on the internet and found this site www.atkinsdietalert.org and now I'm nervous. Has anyone else read this information? Please tell me that none of it is true. Has anyone here developed a heart problem or high cholestrol while doing the Atkins diet or is this site just more propoganda(sp)?

Re: Atkinsdietalert.org
Holy geez! What a crock o poo.
Do you want me to start with just the first paragraph? Responsible doctors my--well--my big toe. Atkins is not a high-protein diet. It is a low-carbohydrate diet. There's a huge difference!
The Stillman Diet is high protein! They're just feeding on the crap the media feeds them in high quantities, which is worse for their calcium levels than anything I've ever dealt with on Atkins.
It's a good comedy site, though!

Re: Atkinsdietalert.org
Is that the site that's run by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine? If so, then you should know about the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine:
1. You don't need to be a physician to be a member of the committee
2. They promote a vegan lifestyle.
3. They are linked to PETA.
If you read the site, you'll see that they quote the 1972 Diet (and the misquote it as well).

Re: Atkinsdietalert.org
Yep that's a PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) site, alright. Those people are ruthless, even publishing horrible literature for children which makes their parents look like devils because they eat meat. That's why they hate us SO MUCH.
There's not any truth in that site, at all. Just read, here, about all the folks who've lowered their blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, and have thrown out their arthritis medicines and their glucophage for diabetes. Following the Atkins regime is, quite probably, one of the BEST things you can do for you body!-Chris

You know what they say -- if God didn't want us to eat animals, He wouldn't have made them out of meat!

Re: Atkinsdietalert.org
Oh PETA. Now it all makes sense.
Also, when I looked for more info on their site, there are only three Personal Stories about people who were negatively affected by the Atkins diet. When I compare the three negative stories to all the people on this site who have been positively impacted by the Atkins WOE - well, there is no comparison. Thanks for the reassurance.

Re: Atkinsdietalert.org
Reminds me of the number of times I have to correct some of the people at the office about Atkins.... yawn.
And as for PETA... put it this way, the human race would have died out long ago had our ancestors all been vegetarian. I do not condone animal cruelty in any way shape or form and am a committed pet lover. That doesn't mean that I can't enjoy meat or fish or anything else that I want to eat that contains animal proteins because the two are not mutually exclusive.
Respecting the other creatures who inhabit our planet and going overboard about their suffering are completely different situations.

Like my sig says "I raise vegetarians for human consumption". Don't get me wrong, their free range vegetarians (no cages or pesticides). I always wondered though, if you are what you eat and you eat a vegetarian, aren't you eating a vegetable?Male, 255 start / 185 now / original goal of 200
