I wanted to add that at 5'11" you don't have a lot of weight to lose. 150 pounds I think is too low for a goal weight. 170 may be more what you sh ould be looking at. ( I know I am 5' 11.5" myself)

Re: I'm new and need help - Almost ready to give up

Okay...gonna add my 2 cents worth here. Take a deep breath! Up .5 pounds is nothing to get worried about the first day it happens. It could just as easily be salt or that you haven't gone to the bathroom just to name a couple of things. Also I kind of looked at my induction time like this...the first week was a bit of weight and a lot of water lost. The second week was a lot of weight and your body adjusting. So even if the scale does not move the second week you still lost FAT that week. If it continues on with no loss or you gain more then it is worth looking further into. But please be prepared...we do not lose weight everyday on this plan. The first week of induction is great with the big whoosh...but after that it gets a lot slower. And 4 days doesn't make a stall. For months I have not been losing until weigh day (I only count Thursdays) and then that day I might get a pound or two down. One week I had nothing down and then the next got 4!!!! Don't panic...follow the plan...drink your water...stay away from frankenfood and use www.fitday.com and you will do fine!!

I am 194 now! onehundredfreakingninteyFOUR! How the heck am I GAINING??! I am following induction to the tee!! Even exercising, (and YES, I read teh book) and it's just not working.

If I wasn't getting married on Saturday, I'd chuck the damn diet all together. Then I leave for Ireland on Dec 28 and get married again in Dublin on January 3rd. Hello - IRELAND!! Where they serve POTATOES with everything! I can't stay on this diet on my Honeymoon - no way. So should I start weaning myself off Atkins after my wedding here and then just start following a low fat diet w/ exercise? Maybe that works best for my body... Sigh. I'm so disappointed.

Re: I'm new and need help - Almost ready to give up

Um...I think we have a few members who are doing Atkins in Ireland. They don't force feed you potatoes. There are other vegetables you can chose.

However, if you don't want to do Atkins on your honeymoon, that is another matter altogether.

I'm sorry you're so frustrated. I know you want to look your absolute best on your special day. But Atkins really isn't a short term fix. It's a lifetime comitment to a slimmer, healthier you.

If you're exercising, you may be builing muscle mass. Yay! How are your clothes fitting? You can still be shrinking and gaining weight. I'm the same weight that I was in the summer. But I'm down two whole sizes. The scale is only one tool to use to measure your success. What is your tape measure telling you?

Again I'm sorry you feel so unhappy about your progress. But I don't think you're going to find anyone here who will say "Yes. You should quit Atkins and do a low fat diet." Of course you need to find a plan that fits your life style. But I think most of us have been pretty convinced by the science of Atkins as being the most effective and healthy way to lose weight and get in shape.

Could there any other causes for the weight gain? Are you taking any new medications? Is there any unusual stress in you life (say...planning a wedding!)? Is this just a bloaty kinda week? There are many reasons that we put on weight. It might not mean that your body is rejecting Atkins.

This aside...best wishes for your wedding on Saturday. I'm sure you will be absolutely radiant. I hope you really enjoy your special day. And have a great time in Ireland. I loved Ireland!

                  Thanks curveegirl

No more inches lost either. And I was joking about the potatoes I'm going to stick with this until I leave for Ireland on the 28th and see how it goes. Honestly, I really don't want to do Atkins on my Honeymoon. Ireland has some of the best fresh baked bread in the world! If i stick with this til the 28th and see some improvement, I'll hop back on Atkins when I get back. However, if I still haven't lost anymore weight by then, I'm thinking it's just not right for me. Too bad, as I love the fact that I have no cravings, am less hungry, etc. But if I'm not going to lose the weight, what's the point? At any rate, I'm going to stick with low carb no matter what. I can tell my body loves me for not eating any sugar and processed food.

Best wishes on your marriage. 10 pounds in about a month is great! Just think how much better you look and feel than if you hadn't started...you might even have ended up weighing more than before. So good on you! Have patience grasshopper!!! Best of luck with at least maintaining in Ireland with the bread and potatoes!
