Re: day 2 and a caffeine headache
Hey Kram,
I know the pain! I gave up caffeine cold-turkey starting on Jan 1, 06. For me, the headaches lasted about a week!
At its worse, I did go ahead an take a couple of ibuprofen, even though it can hinder weightloss. Otherwise, I took hotbaths/showers to help me feel better. Other times, I had my hubby massage my temples and the back of my head.
Hopefully others will have some better ideas!
Hang in there!!! It is tough, but so worth it to be caffeine-free!!!

Re: day 2 and a caffeine headache
I had a caffeine withdrawal head acheso bad I didn't know there was such a thing as induction flu. You csan take any OTC pain med you normally used as long as it is caffeine free.
In DANDR Dratkins is talking about regular users of the NASAIDS not occational use for pain.

Re: day 2 and a caffeine headache
My caffeine addiction was with tea, not coffee or cola. I bought decaf tea bags, and mixed them with regular, slowly decreasing the regular ones over a period of about two weeks. Since EVERYTHING used to give me headaches, I had to go this route so that I wouldn't trigger a migraine. If you can go cold turkey, of course, that's the better way.
Even when I fell off the wagon, I still avoided caffeine. I don't think I've had any since I started induction the first time, and I know I'm much better off without it.-Chris

Re: day 2 and a caffeine headache
I agree with Chris about cutting down on the caffeine slowly. Induction flu is bad enough with out adding the discomfort of going cold turkey with caffeine. But, if you can handle both ..... go for it.
Do not cut out caffeine straight away!
To avoid uncomfortable withdrawal effects it is wise to ease off caffeine over a period of 7-14 days to reduce the discomfort. Reduce and then stop the richest sources (especially coffee) first. It is unwise, particularly if you are a heavy user, to suddenly stop caffeine altogether.
Reducing caffeine too quickly can cause a quite dramatic drop in blood pressure, due to the body becoming over-sensitive to adenosine, and this can cause more blood to gather in the head producing a migraine-like headache.
Muscle cramps, giddiness, excessive sleepiness, and lack of concentration are other common withdrawal effects from going 'cold turkey' on caffeine. http://www.pe2000.com/caffeine.htm

Re: day 2 and a caffeine headache
Hi Kram! I was just wondering if you were saying you're giving up regular coke and not caffiene? If it's just induction flu you are experiencing it should go away in a couple days. 2big is right, just take some advil for your headache it should help! Drink lots of water and hang in there!

Re: day 2 and a caffeine headache
Been there, done that. I quit cold turkey from about a pot or more a day myself. Drink some tea or treat yourself to some decaf when the bad urge strikes. Don't forget to take something for that headache, I'm not that familiar with carbs in meds or adverse affects, but I know you can do it, and it will be better for you! Just hang in there, this craving too, shall pass.
In the meantime
and good luck hun, I know it's not easy, and I'm proud of everyone who at least gives it a good try!

Re: day 2 and a caffeine headache
I dont know if i can answer you, but is there anything wrong with drinking coke zero if youre having a soda fix. the only thing in it is aspartame and a little sodium and it tastes just like coke? Meg

Re: day 2 and a caffeine headache
it has caffeine in it, which is what this is about... lol It is HIGHLY recommended that you lose the caffeine, only because there are so many people that find it stalls them, and no one likes looking back and wondering if that kept them from seeing the results they might have had without the caffeine. It's hard yes, but it's worth it, everything you stop putting in your body that is bad for you while you're putting more good, fresh things in you is good for you!
The hardest part is the first few days, like most addictions, they will all become easier to deal with, the hardest part is starting. Looking back, I am gratefully to everyone who helped me get through the first days of breaking a bad habit.
