  • Starting a Support Group

I'm starting a weight loss support club here at work (we have several other community clubs) because so many people have come in and commented on my weight and want to know is there a local group. So we plan to offer diet support but specifically NOT advice on which diet is best. Also access to forums like this on and online resources. Will let you all know how it goes. Any suggestions on things we might have as weekly topics greatly appreciated.

My email at work is ctcpottsville@rtelecom.com.au, and put 'diet group' in the subject line.

    Re: Starting a Support Group

If you're looking to put a weight loss group together, check out TOPS.org (TOPS = Take Off Pounds Sensibly). They're global (I believe) and they're a not-for-profit weight loss group (so it's very affordable for people to join). They also offer a vast array of information for programs, contests and other fun things. I've been a member for probably 12 years. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to try and help. Mostly it's a NFP weight loss group that weighs in weekly.

        Re: Starting a Support Group

        Odille,
There are several of us at my place of employment who are trying to lose weight right now. We started a weekly weigh-in (kinda like Cleo's I would assume) where we are accountable to each other. It's friendly, but on the other hand most people are competitive, so they don't want to finish last. It's a good incentive to work hard. And, we all realize that stalls do happen, so when someone doesn't have a great week, we all support each other.

Having a great support group is the key!! That's why I love this place!

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

The most weight I ever lost was when a co worker and I made a bet about who could lose the most weight. Even though we were competing, we supported each other at the same time. It was fun.

              What a great idea, Odille
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                        Re: Starting a Support Group

I already have one. Just 10 mins ago a lady came in and was lamenting she has a wedding to go to in JUly and her weight is up. So I told her I'd lost 25 kg in 20 weeks and after she got up off the floor (just joking) she said she'd tried Atkins years ago but her doctor told her it wasn't healthy or sustainable!! Aaarghh!
Anyway, she's going to come and I've already got two DANDRs for lending out - win by stealth is my motto!
