  • How long should it take me to lose 44 pounds???

Hello, its me again!! I am 5'4" and weigh 179 pounds. My goal weight is 135, but I am wondering how long it will take?? I don't have a goal time, but would love to be able to wear short shorts this summer!!! I am on day 4 of induction and no cheating, and the great thing is that I don't even feel like I am on a 'diet'!!! It almost seems like I am cheating because I don't feel hungry or deprived. My best friend is on the South Beach and she was telling me how hard it is, how much will power it takes. I am hoping to convince her to do this with me. I am sure when she sees me losing weight, she will come to our side!!! Thanks everyone for taking the time to read and answer my posts!!

Depending on your carb count (keeping it low) I would say 4-5 months.

    OWL Rungs:
    1: Vegetables
    2: Dairy
    3: Nuts and Seeds
    4: Berries & Melons
5: Wine and other spirits low in carbs
    6: Legumes
    7: Fruits other than berries
    8: Starchy Veges
    9: Whole Grains

It's really hard to give a timeline. Once you've completed your 14 day induction, read in your DANDR (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002) about metabolic resistance--if yours is low, average, or high. If you seem to be an easy or average loser, you could probably lose most of your weight in a reasonable amount of time--maybe 4-5 lbs per month? It usually slows as you get closer to your goal. The amount of exercise you do has a big effect also. The more you work out, the smaller you are--regardless of that "goal" weight.

You will also gain muscle weight but muscle takes up less room that fat. So you might lose 5 lbs of fat, gain 5 lbs of muscle and still look smaller. You will also be less jiggly so you'll look better in those shorts. Don't just go by the scale. Have you taken your measurements?

It does depend on you ...if it helps however I lost 54 lbs in about 10 months....it was for me the right amount ..the beginning it just melted off..then slowed down for a while...I had a brief stall that I just ignored because it was probably due to my peanut butter passion/addiction/heardheaded learning ....and kept going....My basic rules were ...eat a wide variety of fresh low carb food while climging the ladder by the book, not counting calories or obsessing...just eating until was content..drinking lots and lots of water...and trying to move my body as much as possible....about 5-5 1/2 lbs a month is what it came out to and that is just the right amt I think if you want to adjust to it and keep it off.. good luck

Thanks everybody!! No, I haven't taken my measurements yet, but am going to get a tape measurerer (is that spelled right lol) today. 4 to 5 months would be great, and I work out every other day on my eliptical. I am up to a mile on setting #3. I have been doing that since Dec. 26th of last year. I plan on starting to walk when the weather gets better, its very cold and snowy here in Michigan. I have been drinking lots and lots of water!! I love water, so its not a hassle. I have also given up soda and almost coffee (down to 1/2 cup in morning only).
