  • Not So Sure About This

Here's the problem............Sunday morning I woke up and weighed in at 184.5 (had a Sat nite Last Supper)......I stuck to it (although I guess I didn't weigh and measure as close as I should) and today I have stuck to it!! I even turned down CHOCOLATE!! and on the scale it said 186! I GAINED 2 pounds!!!! That's not how it's supposed to work is it??? 2 days in I am supposed to be seeing some sort of result aren't I?

I was gonna get on here with such a glowing report of the Day 2......now I am sooooooooooooooo bummed! I've even been drinking 64 or more oz of water plus if I drink a lemonade or Diet Coke (today I did, yesterday I didn't)

    What am I doing?

First things first.. BREATHE! LOL. Is your TOM near by? I notice that I stop losing, and sometimes gain at day 14, then I start losing again, and a few days before..WHAM weight is piled on me! LOL. It's so crazy what we go through as women....but that's another topic! LOL

Post one of your menus in here so I can take a peak at it, and we can go from there

Just try to relax a little. It could be a bunch of things. You are okay, and good for you for turning down chocolate!! That's so WONDERFUL!!! Keep it up!

Definitely relax!!! It's only been 2 days. Everyone is different--we all lose at different rates. Some people lose a ton of weight during their first 2 weeks of induction, some don't lose any. Your body is going through a lot of changes as you become a fat burning machine. Step AWAY from the scale...try to wait at least until day 7. Stick with it and don't get discouraged!

You must measure!! You will be surprised what an actual cup or tablespoon is, compared to what you think it is ( I know I was surprised). On Induction, we are only allowed 3 or 4 ounces of cheese, it seems like maybe you are going over? I know cheese can stall some people. Please, measure everything and use fitday.com. Stick with the amounts DANDR say, and you will have great success!! Don't give up, its only Day 2.
What would we do without it?

Try drinking just water or tea. That was one of the hardest things for me to do, but once I did not only did my water consumption shoot up but I started taking off the pounds like the book described.

It's best not to weigh yourself until induction is over. The flucuations on the scales will just drive a person insane. Going by how your clothes fit and your measurements are better indicators of how you're doing.

Weight loss is a marathon ..... not a sprint.

Dont worry about it. I have learned to take the dreaded lying monster (aka, scale) with a grain of salt. my weight fluctuates like nobodies business.Lately its been 3 pounds in a weeks time. up down up down up down and then....a pound less then the lowest for that week and we start the dancing for another week. up down up down up down. I use a tape measure as my TRUE test. And I dont even measure weekly anymore. I do about every 2 weeks or so and Im content with it. Measure yourself and pay attention to how your clothing feels.

Measure your food and put it in www.fitday.com if you arent already. If you feel better weighing food, get a digital scale (you can find them in the postage section at walmart if you shop there, I dont, mines from a kitchen place.).

Re: Not So Sure About This

You have to wait till ketosis kicks in at least! Weigh yourself a week into it. Not before. And weigh yourself in the morning after urinating, that way there is less fluctuations based on what you ate that day, how much water you drank, etc.

Yes, once a week weigh in is best. I was so delighted after week one of Induction to have lost 7 kg (15.4 lbs). Take a photo NOW. Then take one on the same day each month. You'll be surprised at the difference.

Do you have ketostix? I would DEFINATELY recommend them. You seem a lot like me. I don't rely on the scale, but I can't help but peak. That's okay. Everyone's different, just as long as you don't become obsessive. Now measuring myself..I am sooo obsessive over!! I MAKE myself wait 2weeks! LOL

I love to check the ketostix to be sure I'm in ketosis, Like someone mentioned, you may not be there yet. I would test them and see what they are saying. Maybe you are in ketosis and are doing great! Everything takes time. Anything worth appreciating is worth the hard work. Easier said than done, I know. Just don't give up. I agree, your cheese does seem like it could be too much, but then again it might not be. I'm one of those thype of people where I stop losing or gain the moment I eat cheese! Sad, but true.

Hang in there. Great job with that water too!!!

LIsten, I am just starting week 2 and I did the same silly thing, I weighed myself on day 2 and to my horror I had gone from 217.5lbs to a whopping 222lbs.........and I stuck to the diet perfectly. However I figured because I wasnt in ketosis yet, my body just thought I had decided to take up a high fat diet.It hadnt switched to burning fat yet....does that make sense? Now if you look at my signature, you can see that weighing myself this morning, I had lost 7.5lbs in 7 days. Now thats not from 222lbs its from 217.5lbs.Hang in there.Dont weight yourself again until next week. You'll see the loss.We just get too excited, and hope the weight will start falling off the day we start........gotta give the body a chance to know its on the atkins diet ok?Good luck thou. Were all here for you.

Salt can make you bloat also, I can now predict when I'll be up two lbs the next day if I eat salty foods the day before. I've even put on as much as 3 in one night due to too much salt. I usually hit the gym extra hard that day and have a sweatfest, usually takes the weight right off. Don't worry about it too much.

That's not how it's supposed to work is it???
                            Hi Below 30
Here is how it is supposed to work. You stay on Atkins for at least 6 months doing it cleanly and following all the rules before coming to a final conclusion.

You never use the scale to monitor progress because you can go down complete sizes without any scale movement at all. The scale cannot measure your internal metabolic processes.

                            Atkineers are not scale slaves.

Please get a copy of the 2002 DANDR and read it. You cannot wing your way through this way of life.

Please go to the induction forum and read all of the stickys. You must allow your body time to adjust to this lifestyle as it goes into ketosis.

If you have been abusing your body with carbage for years, it is going to take your body awhile to believe you have stopped the abuse. Your body will not begin to release the fat stores you have created unless you stick, stick, stick to all the rules of the acceptable foods list for at least 2 weeks, for some people even longer.

Results for newbies vary. Your results will not be like anyone elses results. It is completely normal for the scale to go up and down on Atkins and it is irrelevant.

Stay away from the scale. It is counterproductive to the things you wish to accomplish. You can do this, I know you can. But it is a complete lifestyle, not a quickie fad diet.
