  • Pizza Tops and others

    Hi!

You've been there...your kids are with you. It's Sunday night and dinner and there's NOTHING else in the house. They want pizza. When it shows up though, your discipline kicks in. You don't eat the pizza. Instead - you rip the top off of a few slices.

I've done this countless times in a pinch. How bad is it? I don't think I've done much damage doing this. But, I wonder ...

Anyone have any experience w/this trick???

Just make sure that the breading doesn't stick to it and I don't see where once in a while could hurt much. However, just to be balanced in my response, I would say that there is probably something else in the house you could eat but pizza just sounds so darn tempting!

I enjoy pizza nights here at home. I either eat the toppings straight off the top with a fork or throw them into a nice salad.

I have lost 19 lbs in 8 weeks doing this once a week with a supreme pizza. I rip off the top, pick out the onions just cuz I don't like them, and dig in. I don't have any other cheese that day if I know it's pizza night, or I limit my cheese the next day if it was a surprise. Mostly for digestive, not carb, reasons. Also make sure to eat a LARGE salad with it too so it feels more like pizza is the entree part of a dinner, not a pig out invitation. You do need to watch the sauce too, I do know that there is very little sugar in our local place here, but the info from the chains should be readily available if you just talk to a manager.

Thx Denise!! I do worry about the Sauces. Any red sauce tastes sweet to me if I'm in good Atkins form. But still - most of these places are putting some sugar in it. The bright side - when I slice the tops - I'm usually not getting all the sauce either!!

          Good idea about the salad.

Here's another one - has anyone ever ordered an Enchilada w/o the tortilla? There is a LOOKS AWFUL / TASTES MAGNIFICENT Mexican place near me. I've really missed some Mexicon food. Well...the kids wanted it ...but instead of my "taco-sala-hold-the-taco" I got the "enchilada-hold-the-wrapper" and it was drop-dead great. I'm sure I'm getting some carb - but it was still delicious and probably not awful.

            Re: Pizza Tops and others

I think a lot of this Way of Eating is learning to make those adjustments, to make this WOE LIVEABLE! I love it that I can go to McDonald's with my friends, order a couple double cheeseburgers without ketchup and then use the bun as a gripping device so I can eat my burger rather than eating that inedible floury sack of gunk (i hate buns now!). I kinda pull back the buns and let the burger fall out a little at a time and eat it that way. I'll eat the tops off pizza... it has come in so handy more than once when I've been stuck at some awful free pizza lunch with no back-up plan. True people might give you a funny look but that's just license to give them one back.

And while it's true that many times these are not the best, most nutritious foods, I say as long as they aren't the mainstay of our diet that they are much better choices than just gorging on the whole piece of pizza or the whole burger. As icky as that sounds.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

People think I'm strange but I rip the tops off pizza, pull the buns off my burgers, and I unwrap my burritos and mix the guts up with the green chili and toppings. I love it! That's where al the flavor is!
