So, as of this morning, my boyfriend banned me from my scale. All I did was tell him the number of times I weigh myself when I'm home on a weekend... and then tell him the rationale behind eating after weighing myself and my constant ocdness that comes from any fluctuation in the scale vs. what i've been eating since the last time I weighed myself. Anyway. He said I can only weigh myself once a week. A week counts as Monday-Sunday., So I can still weigh myself once today and once tomorrow... Blah. What am I gonna do???! I weigh myself in the morning and at night on weekdays and everytime I go to the bathroom on the weekends. It's nice to see the numbers be smaller than they used to be. What a horrid horrid man he is!!

I almost wish mine would take my scale away, but I only weigh in the morning. When you weigh at night, you have to look at the number reflecting everything you ate and drank that day, and what's the point of that? Be happy - you will get a better view of your progress - weighing everyday shows water fluctuations and can be discouraging.

LOL! Good sense of humor. Sounds like he is coming from a loving place. If it is getting out of hand so much that you are stepping on it through out the day then it is probably better to take a break from it. I happen to weigh daily...but only count it once a week. But to each their own. You may want to think about joining a no weigh in challenge. Or starting one. Check out the challenge section. You can even make your challenge for only one week if you want.

But I had a *system* *whines*. See, you take the number in the morning and then you add 5 pounds to it. If your number at night is more than those 5 pounds, you're totally in it deep and need to look back at anything with hidden carbs or sodium throughout the day and figure out what you're doing wrong, unless it had been a day or two after an intense weight lifting session, in which case it's completely explainable. Anyway, then, if the number at night is either the same as or 1 pound more than the one in the morning, it usually means that the morning weight for the next day(which is the one that actually counts) is going to be less than it was that morning and *poof* you can tell you're losing weight before it happens so you can congratulate yourself at night, and then again in the morning when the change occurs. See, it's a total self-motivational thing and completely realistic. And of course, every time you get on a scale and it weighs less than it did the week before, you know you're making progress and you can cheer for yourself. It's ok though. He doesn't know about the tape measure *or* the ketostix. There's more than one way to skin a cat, and I like chinese food (that was a joke). If he finds out about all my secret plans, I'm soooooooo uhm... yeah, let's hope he never finds out. I understand his reasoning, really, I do. I can be a little obsessive. I know this. It doesn't mean I'm addicted or anything you know... :P

I always tried to wait as long as I possibly could to weigh, just so that it would be a nice surprise every time. Otherwise, it was like watching paint dry! The suspense would kill me, but it was nice to enjoy the little rewards at the end of the week - or at least several days.

              Re: Scale Woes

How many of us would walk up to a total stranger and ask what kind of day am I having, today? Well, likely not many. Expecting something from a scale is just as irrational. It is a hunk of steel and plastic. It doesn't have a brain. It can't tell whether TOM is visiting or you are having other hormonal fluctuations. It doesn't know whether you are building muscle in your legs or your back or your arms as a result of exercise. It doesn't know whether you had something to eat that was high in salt and may contribute to water retention. And it doesn't know your bathroom habits and frequency. So why, why, why, do we expect positive reinforcement from a scale. I weigh myself every six to eight weeks when I visit my doctor. That's it. Try it ... it will give you a feeling of freedom and you don't have to let an hunk of steel dictate your anxiety level for the day.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

Hmmm...I'm not having a go and please dont take this as offence but I think that ur BF is right. You will be alot happier if you only weigh urself once a week. I know I am but then everyone is different. If I weighed myself twice a day I'd get depressed cos it would flucuate so much and I wouldnt have a true picture of my weight loss.

I need to weigh every morning, it keeps me completely on track. I could gain 10 lbs in a week and that would be too hard to work off. If I'm up 2 lbs, I really watch it that day. Twice a day is really excessive, especially when you ALWAYS weigh more in the afternoon.

I've decided to weight once a month on the 18th. My husband lost over 50 lbs on Atkins and is of the mind that you should weight every day, take into account "fluctuations" and make sure you're going steadily downward. Weighing every day makes me nuts because I tend to retain water sometimes and it really frustrates me seeing my weight go up 2 or 3 lbs. in a day! I have to say that I almost dread the scale, like I dread buying clothes right now, ugh.

I wish I could be one of those people who is happy with weighing once a month. Honestly, it's really hard not to be weighing myself that much. It was just a habit. I know you weigh more in the afternoon, hence the lunar fluctuations, but if I woke up in the morning and the weight was up, I would know I had to watch it. Now I'm in a state of continual watching for the fear that next week it'll say I've gained 20 pounds! I'm in your husband's boat. Or at least I was. I understand both sides of it, and I understand I was getting a little psychotic with weighing myself every time I went to the bathroom. :P

And now PUT away that scale and STOP whining girl !!!!!

For real though, it really sounds like you should step away from that scale and get rid of that 'addiction' cause even though you try not to, it DOES influence your mood and that's no good for ANYbody, not for you and not for all people around you.
                            Happy losing !!!

One of the hardest things about other diets is having the diet take over your life with weighing food, etc. Although we do journal and count carbs, this diet gives us some freedom to be able to "live life" without hunger and counting points. It makes sense to be free from another millstone, the scale. Easier said than done, for sure.
