    Like just eat all protein all day long

    Will this increase or decrease my weight loss?

    I can tell you exactly what happens when you eat all protein. I did this several years ago, because I didn't fully understand Atkins.

    I lost weight, yes. I also lost a great deal of hair that's never grown back. I got skin problems that twice required steroidal pills from my doc (spots all over my face). My hair turned unhealthy and lighter. My scalp was so incredibly sensitive that I had to cut my hair short to ease the discomfort (no amount of gentle shampoo or conditioner eased that, not even Johnsons Baby shampoo).

    What I didn't realize is that my body was in starvation mode, and it was drawing from my entire body chemistry to keep me alive.

    The reality is, you can still eat carbs and lose weight. Most of us here are proof of that For induction, it's 20 carbs. Later, you'll find you can eat more carbs. Dr. Atkins says you should eat at least 3 cups of salad a day, or the equivalent.

      Also, your body turns excess protein into sugar which it then turns into fat. So that plan would backfire.

      Have you read the success stories here? People have been very successful doing the plan as it's written. Why would you want to mess with a good thing and harm yourself in the process? You're allowed up to 20 carbs so you might as well take them. Now go eat your vegetables young man. LOL

          Seems a lot of us...myself included, at one point or another when first starting atkins, thinks we can somehow improve the diet in one way or another, lol. I have learned my lesson. Its been around longer than I have, lol. Its already been perfected.

              I'm going to get bashed for this but here it goes.

              All protein is not Atkins. Atkins is a high fat diet.

              Anyhow, if you cut out the carbs completely, then you limit your macronutrients to fats and proteins. Since most people can't sit down to a meal consisting of a plate of butter, a chicken breast and a mug of olive oil, protein will be eaten in a higher amount than fat.

              As LiR stated, excess protein is converted to glucose. Whatever is not used immediately for energy will be converted to glycogen and fat.

                    well since you know know you will get constipated and missing vital micronurtients, beconverted to sugar and lose the Atkins carving control system, pkus your hair will fall out and your skin will be shot do you still want to know if your weight loss will go faster?
                    the answer is it depends on your cals in verse your cals burned from all sources so the total amount you consume combined with the total amount of your exercising will control the speed of your weight loss. over eat it and just like overeating Atkins you will gain weight.

                      Good .. glad you're gonna buy those veggies!

                      Atkins is about waaaaaaaaaaaay more than weight loss. Its about giving your body the fuel it needs to be the best it can be. And that means following the plan as written.

                        Just to throw this out there. I have talked to a couple of people that almost eat no carbs. They claim that it works great. One even claims to be a distance runner. They point to the Inuit (eskimos) as their model. Fat and protein and no veggies. It is very interesting to me. They have no scurvy yet get no Vitamin C.

                        Now I eat my carbs and am not sure I support all of that. But it is very interesting.

                          about your point on the eskimos

                          They have/had been like that for generations so Im sure their body chemistry is a bit different the the avg person and would beable to sustain themselves with no veggies as there are none up there

                          just my thought on that

                            Ah, if I'm not mistaken, the Eskimo eat the entire animal that is killed. This includes stomach , its contents and other organs. Those fish and animals eat plants (in and out of the water) or eat whole animals that ate plants, so they do get their vitamins, just a little bit different sources.

                            If I had succeeded in O-carb eating when I tried it (many times over the years), I wouldn't be here now, would I?

                              I lost a lot of weight when I did the all protein/fat diet...but my health suffered severely.
