  • Going to London

I'm going to London next week for 5 days to visit friends and family and was wondering if anyone knows what British foods are Atkins friendly and of any local restaurants that I may gorge at? lol. Fish and chips ain't gonna cut it this time. Thanks.

Yes most restaurants will be able to accommodate you!! Plus I'm sure if you let your friends know in advance they could possibly get a few extra items in like egg and bacon for your breakfasts!

I eat out alot in the UK, and manage to stick to the plan.

I normally have some sort of meat with veg, and ask them to put some grated cheese over my hot veg!! or a salad!

Have a great time in London

      Re: Going to London

I agree - most eateries will be able to serve you with meat without gravy/sauces if asked, and asking for 'green vegetables' or 'no starchy vegetables' is pretty easy I have found.

In fact I always hated eating meats smothered in gravy, so even pre-Atkins would ask 'does that come with gravy? If so please serve mine without any' and never had any problems.

Though I have several times sent back a plate saying 'I asked for no gravy' and got a new plate of food!! Serving staff dont always do what we ask them so we have to be polite and gently insist on being served what we ordered if they get it wrong

If they cant/wont add grated cheese to your brocolli/green beans/cabbage/cauliflower then ask for a few pats of butter on the side - most restaurants have the small wrapped 1/4 ounce packs available. I often carry a few of those as well as packs of mayonnaise in my bag or pocket 'for emergencies'. In fact if you are eating at a restaurant which has the butter and mayo packs on the table just put a few in your pocket for future use.

Take your own preferred sweetener too, many restaurants use aspartame-based ones though there are splenda packs sometimes.

If the only place to eat is a fish and chip shop just order the chicken which in most places is not breaded but just a quarter of chicken with the skin on which is deepfried.

If you are out and about during the day you can go into most supermarkets and buy bags of mixed salad and cold meats as well as small bottles of salad dressing - just read the labels as always!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I dont know if there are any in London but I eat at Harvester Restaurants. They have an unlimited salad bar and serve things like ribs and chicken wings. Great for Atkins!

I hope you have a fab time in London, I love central London for shopping and going out.

Like everyone else said, anywhere will accomodate, but Rico Rodizio's is one of my favorites:
