Be careful not to overdo the protein as any excess you eat will be turned into glucose from what I have read here and thence probably into fat.
From DANDR Chapter 5 (page 50 in my copy)
Protein in excess converts to glucose in the liver
Atkins is a highfat/medium protein/lowcarb regime and our protein intake ought to be around the 30% mark throughout all its phases.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I do use protein shakes/powders, and they've caused me no issues. I try to buy plain unsweetened ones, and add my own stuff to make smoothies. I think everyone is different, but they're very convenient if you can drink them without issue. I find them very filling and a great snack..

there are also some recipes where they are used for baking. I have used it in flax muffins etc too.

Forest, aren't you in the middle of a no weight loss period? If so, then maybe you should stick to real foods until you start seeing the scale and measuring tape move. Then once your weight loss is on track, you could incorporate processed foods like protein powders if you wish.

Here's an interesting article from the Weston Price Foundation about the protein used in bars, etc.

I've had success with whey protein shakes as a supplement too...and haven't had any problems. Although none of mine had anywhere near 50g of Protein... more like 23 in a serving... I still track them in fitday so that I'm at the same ratio as if I was eating a low carb meal.

            Good Luck!

I gained when I used the whey protein powders. I think it is becasue it is processed. Processed foods are always a problem for me.

I agree, I take them into account as part of my meals, and adjust my menu accordingly. I find though whatever meal I have one before I normally don't eat as much..so it usually works itself out. Mine also range from about 19 - 25 g's per serving...50 is pretty high!

                  Re: Whey Protien

I have some whey protein that's 23 gr a serving. I used it today to balance my percentages because my fat was too high. It seemed like a good way to get some protein in without adding fat. In my searches of the old threads last week I came across one that said it's fine for induction as long as it's the isolate whey protein.

It's something I will only use on those kinds of occasions though. I'm really enjoying eating real food at last.

                    thanx guys

after looking at the stats again and its actually 25g of protein per scoop and they rec 2 scoops per serving.

What im doing now is just doing 2 scoops once a day on the days that I lift (right after lifting) that way im not doing too much of it.

I do drink it once in a while in the eve as a snack. its really good.

wish I could add some ice cream LOL would make a good milkshake

Sometimes I add some cream cheese, or soy milk (depends on the rung your on), or heavy cream, as well as the water, and 3 or 4 ice cubes, and throw it in a blender, and it actually can come out tasting like a milkshake! if youre at the berries rung throw in some berries too.

I bought a small 1 serving blender for $15 at Walmart that I just love. It's great for protein shakes and smoothies and saves me from having to wash a large blender.
