Re: Portion Control vs. Over Eating?

Oh yes, I'm having major issues with "my eyes being bigger than my stomach", which is a nice change from "my gut is huge and who cares about my eyes anyway"?

This is even compared with the start of Atkins--I dramatically reduced portion sizes to a much smaller level than what I'd been eating, and now those reduced portion sizes are still too big. I do it countless times, and yes I was brought up on the "clean your plate" mentality so it's always a conscious effort to break that habit.

It also seems like I have to wait longer than 20 minutes to see if I'm full...that feeling doesn't seem to appear as quickly as it did before.

Re: Portion Control vs. Over Eating?

Bearing in mind the "normal" fist-sized capacity, the 20 minutes to "full" delay, the tastiness of your favorite foods, the eyes' psychological influence on your appetite, and in addition -the tendency for the act of chewing to have an ability to stimulate satiety which the act of merely swallowing without chewing does not have- let me advance these helpful tips:

      1. Use smaller dishes to eat on so your eyes percieve less empty space.

      2. Eat foods containing a high water content, and chew each spoonful, even if only a little piece of food is in the spoon.

      3. Chew food longer, especially if it tastes good. You'll give your taste buds more satifaction per bite, and use time.

      4. Sit fork/spoon down between bites; take your time.

      5. Do not go for seconds unless still hungry after 20 minutes have elapsed.

      6. (Additional tip for the "see-food" addict) Store your packaged leftovers in the freezer if practical, where they are less tempting.

I was recently noticing a portion-size increase trend, and started having very dilute cabbage soup before the denser food. It helped me feel full and kept total intake low.

The 'Spit Test' reveals a secret!

Want to know if you have a yeast infection or candida concern? With millions affected by this condition it pays to try out a completely FREE and FAST Saliva Test!

When you get up in the morning, before you do anything or put anything into your mouth; work up some saliva and spit it into a clear glass of water. This is a very important test so keep checking the water every fifteen minutes or so for up to one hour!

          What am I looking for?

Spit or saliva is a clear liquid secreted into the mouth by the salivary glands and mucous glands of the mouth. It moistens the mouth and starts the digestion of starches. Yeast loves starches and sugars. Normal saliva is healthy but when a yeast infection attacks the body even the saliva contains the yeast. In this instance you are looking for signs that you may have the yeast infection.

Thanks - I always wondered what a 'sloppy Joe' was and now I know from the photo on that recipe page.
I cant imagine eating a bun with what we would call 'savoury mince' in it - doesnt it all fall out when you pick it up to eat it?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

A little but that's what makes it sloppy! Seriously, it holds together fairly well because the sauce thickens a little bit. We can buy the sauce in a can and you just add your own beef, but this is so much better. No sugar or all that other stuff they add to preserve it.

Like dream said, the sauce helps to hold the sloppy joes together. BUT that can't be said of the "loose meat" sandwich.

The 20 minute rule has never worked for me... takes at least an hour for the "not hungry" sensation to kick in, always has done . An hour is too long to make experimenting easy.
