Re: Things I have stopped keeping in the house...

Since I have kids that would revolt if I freed the house of fruit and bread and such, I to can not remove most items that I would like too. However, I do store them in a seperate cabinet so I am not constantly looking at them and I have my kids grab their own snacks so I am not smelling them. I too have no self control so I dare not try them just yet. Although since, I have started moving up the ladder I want to try out peanut butter so I can see if it effects me. But I have decided to stay where I am currently (no new foods) until after the holidays since temption will be increased.

      Chocolate in any form
      Cashews

And sometimes it's not even a good idea for me to have cream cheese and cocoa powder in the house at the same time!

Re: Things I have stopped keeping in the house...

I still have everything in my house that I had pre-Atkins. DH and DS do not follow the same WOE, so foods that they eat are still present. I just don't eat them. I still bake cakes, cookies, pies, brownies, etc for DH (non-low carb) and they are in kept the house without me wanting any at all. I'm more interested in my health and feeling good than having something I know will make me feel lousy.

My thought on this is, I live in the real world and need to learn to deal with food in the real world, so why not have it in my house. I've been following Atkins since 04-05-05 and haven't had anything that I shouldn't based on the rung I was on at the time. I'm still not at goal, but I'm getting there.

It's strange sometimes because these always used to be staples in my pantry lol
What's wrong with iodised salt, Jace? Just curious... I always thought it was better for you than regular salt.

Mike, same thing here. Made it through 75% of my weight loss having dairy with no problem (or so I thought) but the less fat of me I get, the more sensitive I am to anything dairy.

                  So, here's my list:
                  cream
nuts of any kind, but PARTICULARLY peanuts, peanut butter or any salted/roasted nut.
                  cheese
                  low carb ice cream
                  low carb candy
                  low carb desserts
                  Anything that contains wheat

Re: Things I have stopped keeping in the house...

It's funny -the regular stuff doesn't bother me too much. It's the lower carb, might be ok, might not foods that get me. As I mentioned, I don't have macadamias any more, even though in small quantities they are legal. Maybe that's the difference - if something is flat out illegal (honey, for instance) it's not a problem. If it's legal in small quantities, then I run into trouble.

I hung on to those sugar free cookies, and am actually glad I did. A Greek girlfriend came over for cards on Sunday with a bunch of our friends and brought home made baklava (filo dough, honey, sweetened wine and crushed nuts, in layers). I grabbed the bag of sugar free cookies. Had way too many of them, but resisted the baklava and that night my ketosticks were still pink.

                    Necessary evil perhaps.
