Re: I am always freezing - is this WOL part of the reason?

I'm a cold one, too! I USED to be SOOOOOOOO overheated...always sweating, major pit stains (gross I know, but I'm being honest here) when I wasn't even doing anything! Now I'm cold, wearing a jacket or sweatshirt at all times, or covering up in a blanket when I watch TV. I know all the water I drink makes me colder.

At night, things change. My boyfriend and I sleep naked, and we have done that for quite some time...but in the past, if I fell asleep with clothes on, I was OK. Now if I fall asleep with clothes on, I wake up drenched in SWEAT! I'm constantly kicking the covers off and rolling away from him because I get too hot.

The only time I feel really warm is when I'm drinking...it's like I can actually FEEL the alcohol being burned as fuel...I'm just roasting after I've had a few drinks.

I heard Bob Greene discuss this on his radio show. He said that as we shed layers of fat, we are more acceptable to the cold. I thought at the time this must be true cause I'm a lot colder now than when I had layers of fat surrounding my body.

When I was in my late 40's, I thought I was having hot flashes at night, I went to the doctor and she said it was because at night I have covers on and the fat on my body heated up and caused what she called 'fat flashes'. She said it was often mistaken for menopause. Don't know if that was the case with me, but feel it was a possibility.

Okay, you guys are making me feel old.
I am not experiencing 'cold' like I used to... and I think it's due to the hormonal changes in me. At work there are 2 sets of people... those who are cold and are constantly turning the thermostat up. And those of us who are warm... always turning the thermostat down! I'm one of the later NOW... not so a few years ago.
Alexa, you should ask the dr about Reynoilds' syndrome (wrong spelling, sorry) as you do sound more severe!
When I used to be a coldie... I always had one of those pads you put in the microwave and then you can put it on your feet, or your neck or where ever to warm you up. Also drank a lot of hot tea in the evening and still always take a hot bath before bed to relax my muscles and it helps me sleep.
Once you're cold, it seems like it's so hard to get warm.

And Alexa, I bought an electric blanket this year with dual controls (essential) and it's my new best friend! Keep a small granny-knee-blanket on your legs at work - helps a lot. And those hot patches you can buy and adhere to your clothes at the small of your back - the BEST! Keep warm!
          Nice suggestions. Thank you.

Phew, I'm so relieved it's not just me!

Some great suggestions for keeping warm there thanks. I've not heard of those heat pads. I'm planning a run tonight and I am trying to think how to balance freezing /roasting. Layers I guess.

Sally - that sounds very severe! I didn't know that could happen. How scary.

Actually... I get remissions. It seems to follow hormonal swings... like, after breastfeeding my second son it started. Had it for several years, then went into remission... Had another bout during peri-menopause... and now, nearly into menopause it comes and goes.
It's like any allergy... you just have to be prepared.

Re: I am always freezing - is this WOL part of the reason?

Interesting topic, Alexa. I, too, am often cold -- and never used to be. I run a heater under my desk at work year-round now. And I got a heater for our bedroom b/c I was having a really hard time getting out of bed in the morning to workout because the room was SOOO cold. It actually really was/is cold, but I think it feels even colder to me. Hubby didn't even think we needed the heater. I was like, are you CRAZY??

AND, the weirdest thing.... I now get GOOSEBUMPS, which I NEVER used to get before. EVER. I just always thought my body didn't make them. But apparently, they were just trapped under all that fat...

Okay, gonna go turn on the heater, snuggle under the covers, and get to bed.

At home the air is set at 78 in the summer. I hate running the heat so I usually pile on the clothes before I turn on the furnace...which I will do if necessary. A few nights this past week it's gotten below 70 in the house, which, to anyone living in a colder climate wouldn't be a problem, but we absolutely freeze at that temperature.
I moved from the mountains of Virginia to Key West, FL for two years. I almost never wore a coat in Virginia, even in the snow, but when it got down to 58 degrees in Key West, I wore a coat, shut the windows and went to bed in sweats, socks and a pile of blankets. When I moved back home to Virginia in the middle of July, I had cold chill bumps outside in the sun. Now that I have been back home for a few years, I am still sleeping with my window open in the middle of November with just a night shirt and sometimes I only sleep under a sheet. It's 28 degrees out right now.

                  Sunny!
