    Re: Atkins UKTV Documentary

I just got done watching this. First, I thank you for the link. It's fascinating watching what they've gone through to disprove Atkins only to show that it works. However, at the end, I think they still haven't gotten the answer. They say that protein is what quells our appetites. But, back in non Atkins days, I was actually eating more meat per sitting, as well as my carb side dishes. I think they are still missing the insulin response link.....at least at the date of that documentary.

sadly enough this documentary once again focuses on the high fat and "few to no carbs" fairytale.
it points out how u cant eat certain fruit and vegetables but doesnt mention that u will be able to eat those again if u follow the plan.
also that "study" with the twins...if these guys were indeed only put on the diets when they were locked in these rooms, its impossible that the one following atkins could have been in ketosis.
as we all know this takes about 3 days for most ppl, so even though it looked like a promising documentary in the beginning, it came down to promoting the same misconceptions most ppl have of Atkins.

whatever it is that makes me lose weight, i dont care much as long as it keeps going.
Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

Thanks for that. I had seen this before a few years ago, but it was good to watch it again. A little curious though as to what they are claiming about fat not being the key to appetite supression. I hope they are incorrect!

They were put on their diets for two weeks, THEN locked into the room.

claiming about fat not being the key to appetite supression
Didn't look like EITHER group got low carb. Both ate the same stuff, one group had fat added. They mentioned carbonara which looked like some PASTA dish----so in effect they didn't test fat as an appetite suppressant in a low carb environment!

I agree with Chicklady. They did not mention the role of insulin at all, and that is probably the only thing most scientists can agree on.

Well that documentary is outdated. However, I enjoyed watching them thar' scientists squirming trying to make Atkins out as a loon.....and coming up short

Yeah, watching people eat with such a closeup is totally a deterrent for overeating

Great link Cherrybom, thank you. I also scrolled down through some of the other documentaries list on the left hand side and found a really great one that I had heard about and wanted to watch. It's from Nova about 13 non-runners who all had 9 months to run for and run the Boston marathon. That one was also really good, inspirational (though they do once mention the importance of carbs for runners ) and was really moving in the end. I highly recommend it!

That was a brilliant video! It was very interesting to watch. They are really trying to disprove Atkins findings aren't they. The man was a genius in my opinion. I don't really care if it is the high fat or the high protien that supresses our appetites, I do not care where our calories are going! I am just glad they are gone and we are all losing weight because of this man and his ideas. Tahnk you Dr. A
